Are there any SA revolvers that look like DA revolvers?

Smith Model 14 and any other Smith with single action only option. There are other brands but names excape me.

Unless you are an ultra sensitive target shooter.......why ?

Since any DA revolver I know about can be shot SA, I'm not sure that I understand the question? Why not just shoot the DA in SA mode?

As Sam mentioned, the S&W Model 14. They are not all that easy to find (the single action only version). I looked for one for awhile before I finally gave up and bought the standard double action model. I then tryed to send it to the S&W Performance Center to have it modified to SA-only but they no longer offer that service. One further note, if you do want to buy one for collector purposes, find one that came from the factory in that mode; one that was not later modified to SA-only. This would require some research.

Why ? Why not ? It is something a little unusual, something fairly unique. If I want to shoot double action I can use any one of my few dozen double action revolvers. My model 14 is an 8 3/8" model with a set of Randall Fung grips on it. It is fired exclusively with wadcutters from the classic bullseye stance. It is not really something that lends itself to double action shooting. The gun world is not all about self defense. Many people enjoy collecting, target shooting, and some people just like to own a particular gun because it appeals to them. I certainly own a number of single action Rugers, why not a S&W ?

Testify, my brother!

Why? Because I'm making the (possibly faulty) assumption that, just like with semi-autos, you can get a better SA pull on a gun that was designed that way from the start. My 1911 trigger makes the SA pull on a good Sig feel like you're wringing out a sponge. And because there's less to go wrong. And because SA guns should be a little sturdier. And because, you know, why not? There are reasons to own an SA gun, and I wonder why they all have to look like they come with a 10-gallon hat.

You could always just get a Bisley Blackhawk and put rubber grips on it. (Gack, did I actually just say that? :))

Re: "better trigger on a SA-only gun" I'm not so sure. From what I've read, SAs have a longer lock time and longer hammer drop time, so you might actually get a better "trigger experience" with a DA gun in SA mode. Of course, I have not yet taken possession of my first SA gun, so that could be completely wrong. I'll tell you from experience sometime next week. :)

Personally, I want the SA just to round out my revolver collection, and because, "I just want one."

With most DA/SA revolvers, the lock time is less with the DA trigger than the SA. In the DA sequence, the hammer doesn't go back as far...it's easy to see. S&Ws work like this, as does my Charter Arms Undercover, and many others. Rugers too, I think. Dunno about Colts.

When this is the case, there's more theoretical accuracy available (for somebody who's mastered the DA trigger) in DA.

Beginners however do better in SA.

This is why you see a lot of old DA revolver raceguns with bobbed hammers.

If memory serves, the Russian Nagant came in a single-action version for Other Ranks and in selective DA for officers. Probably after the Soviet Revolution, only the DA versions were made. ??

I sure don't have anything against DA only revolvers. I was just curious why he was looking for it. And I find that my OLD S&W DA's when shot SA have as nice a trigger pull as any of my SA only's.

I agree that a DA auto like the some 1911's and HP's have great triggers. I know my 1911's and HP's have better triggers than my SiGs in SA mode. But I also know that my 1917's from Colt and S&W have better triggers than my HP's or 1911's.

I think the SA only model 14s were made with an even shorter lock time than that. These guns were purpose built for bullseye shooting. Best possible (SA) trigger, shortest possible lock time that would work with target ammo.
