Are the reworked AK`s junk?

I was wondering if anyone could give me some guidance as to if the "rebuilt with US made parts" AK`s that are out there, now, are any good. They`re pretty cheap, but I bought a HK91, that was "reworked" , and I couldnt even zero it! The barrel was installed improperly, and there wasnt enough windage in the rear sight to mask the problem. Any problems like that?

When the U.S parts kits for AK's were first being installed there were problems. Soft hammers, trigger slap and canted sites being the most common. A few would even fire double-triple bursts.

By the year 2000, 98% of these problems have been ironed out. There are still a few rifles with a trigger slap problem but those can be fixed at home in about 10 min.

The SAR series rifle are by far the best rifles with U.S parts installed. The only rifle I would suggest you stay AWAY from would be the MAADI series. They are terrible.

When you buy, look for the build date on the receiver. It will usually have a 00 or 01. Some have been stanped 2000 or 2001. If you find one you like that has a 99 stamp just dont be suprised if you have hammer problem. either way you can fix this with a new kit for $40. AK's are probably the more fun and reliable rifles you will ever shoot. Let us know what you get.

Remember: Your support group is only a key stroke away..LOL

I would disagree about the SAR being the best with US parts. The VEPR II's have a US trigger and a few other parts and they are by far much better.

Rock is correct about the VEPR. I normally do not mention the VEPR because of the cost ($650-$700). They are very pricey by AK standards. Personally I am not willing to spend that much on a variant.

In my opinion the Norinco is inferior to the 2000-01 SAR's, and more expensive, without the pistol grip.

My SAR-1 will shoot 2-3 inch groups at 100 meteres w/ iron sights...this is typical!

Ditto on the MAADI, basicly junk.
