Are the 10/22 to .17 mach 2 any good?

I was poking around in my LGS and found a .17 HMR barrel for the 10/22 magnum. It was made by E R Shaw. I have a regular 10/22 and I thought a 10/17mach2 might be fun. I checked their webpage and they don't make these type of barrels anymore.

Is there something wrong with the design? I have seen other companies that sell 10/17 barrels but they are all bull barrels and they come with enormous liability waivers.

What am I missing? What is the downfall of a semi auto .17?

I have used many of these with great results !

Doubles the effective range of the 10-22 from 100 yards to 200+ yards.

I have shot prairie dogs at 325 with the 17mach2.

The CCI or Hornady loads are best..the Eley are slower and not as accurate.

They run great thru a suppressor as well !

Try it...you won't go back to 22 !

Here's why the .17 Mach 2 is on life support...

Yes, it has more range than .22lr and flatter trajectory.
But the .17 HMR eclipsed it by being the same diameter, but better performance...

But both .17's suck in semi-auto applications...

Consumers desiring to modify existing semi automatic firearms with after market components are strongly cautioned that modification
must be made to the bolts as well as the barrel. Modifications should only be made by competent gunsmiths properly trained in the modifications required.

In response to this, the following warning appears on each box of ammunition supplied by CCI:
"WARNING: To avoid serious injury use this ammunition only in firearms that have a barrel/chamber with standard SAAMI sporting dimensions
for this Mach 2 .17 caliber cartridge AND a bolt specifically designed for this Mach 2 .17 caliber cartridge.""

I guess when I replied I some how read 17mach2 as 17HMR. Sorry about that. I have shot a 17mach2 and it was a fun caliber but around here you don't see it much.
