Are Springfield pistols "Series 70" or "Series 80"?

Uh... huh?
What was the question?

I think that you'ld call'm series 80...
But I aint sure. They are a helluvalotbetter than my M1911 I used in the service.

If it doesn't have Series 80 firing pin safety parts (and I don't think that it does), then it is essentially Series 70 (although to be accurate, Series 70 is specific to Colt pistols, IIRC).

The 1911-style pistols made by Springfield, Inc. (formerly Springfield Armory, Inc.) do not have the passive firing pin block of the Colt Series 80 pistols.

As far as I know, the only 1911 makers who use the passive firing pin block are Colt and Para Ordnance.

(Lurkers: Please note that there is no "i" in "Para Ordnance". "Ordnance" without an "i" refers to weaponry; "Ordinance" refers to a law. Spell it right or I'll rap your knuckles with my cyber ruler. :))

They are series 70 only the Colt and the Para ordinance have the series 80 parts on them. The series 80 just adds the internal firing pin block to the gun.If you have a newer Colt just take the slide apart and look at thr rails and at the back in the middle of the center rail will be a plunger that locks the firing pin from being used unles the trigger is pulled. The series 70guns are the ones prefered ny gunsmiths though becuse it is easier to get a crisp trigger pull on them. That is the reason even the wilson guns and the les baer guns are series 70.

As indicated above, Springfield 1911 do not have the Series 80 firing pin block. An easy way to tell if a pistol has a firing pin block is to first MAKE SURE THE PISTOL IS COMPLETELY UNLOADED, then cock the hammer and push the firing pin forward with the tip of a pencil. If the firing pin moves forward, the pistol does not have the firing pin block.

Allen, did you by any chance purchase a stainless Springfield at Patriot Arms in Brandon, Florida last Friday?

Allen, thanks for your reply. I was at the aforementioned shop last Friday and talked to a gentleman named Allen who was purchasing a Springfield. I thought there was an off chance you might be the same person. Funny that you happened to be from Brandon...if you haven't been here since '89, you probably wouldn't recognize it. The growth in the three years I've lived here has been unbelievable. Take care, Alfadog.

Well, we don't have many "nuclear" or "nucular" discussions here. :)

In addition, "nucular" isn't a word, but "ordinance" is, just the wrong word. :)
