Are silvertips really hotter?

I have mentioned in the past about how winchester silvertips feel much more powerful then other 357 loads I have played with. I have also heard this from other people.
Has anyone actually checked the load to see why it feels so hot?
Does anyone actually have numbers or evidence to support this?
Thanks.

First time I fired one in a snub my hand said hot Good enough for me. Even in my Ruger Blackhawk they seem hotter than regular 357,s

Although they have less energy than the standard 125gr. loads. They are developing more bullet momentum, thus increasing recoil. That is why they feel hotter.

In several years of shooting Silvertips in various handgun calibers this is the first time I've ever seen them referred to as "hot".
Typically they give the mildest recoil in comparable bullet weights in my hand, and they usually chronograph at least in the lower half with velocities.

I think cje is right...aren't they in an odd grain size like 140 or so in the .357? Thats probably why they have a little more push than the 125s?

Its a 145gr. bullet launched at 1290fps. The heavier the bullet the more recoil felt. The lighter the bullet there is less recoil but has more snap to it. The Silvertip may feel hot because its kind of in between both loads and has some push while also having some snap because of its higher velocity. Just my theory. Don't know for sure.

That's what I was thinking! I've got some Silvertips in .44 Special. They are nice and accurate but I swear I could throw them at the target faster than they come out of the barrel!

I'll third the motion above. However, they do seem to have a very intense muzzle FLASH. When shooting a snubby, the fireball is very bright.

Well I can understand the concept of going from 125gr jhp to 145 gr sthp being more sharp but when I go to a heavier 180gr jhp it is more of a push vs the sharp crack of the 145gr sthp. Especially when going from my 4" to the 2" airlight! My vote is that the Silvertips hurt me more then all other loads. Maybe the amount of powder in these loads?
The bigger problem is finding loads that are crimped hard enough to not unseat the bullet when firing.

Every time I do a test with four to six factory loads that include Silvertips, the STs are always the lowest recoiling. I've always considered them quite mild, but usually pretty accurate.
