Are laminated wood stocks better than just plain wood stocks?

A laminated stock is less subject to any warping from changes in ambient humidity.

They are heavier, helpful in rifles of greater recoil. Really dense--and therefore heavier--walnut is rather scarce and therefore quite expensive.

And some folks just think they're purty.

I didn't know about the warpage control in a laminated stock. My gunsmith admonished me to keep some clear fingernail laquer handy, and after a hunt or using the rifle, to touch up any scratches on my stock (walnut) to prevent the natural water vapor from entering the wood causing warpage.
