Are Federal Fusions just for deer?

I picked up some Federal ammo literature at a hunting show, and it indicated the Fusion bullet was designed primarily with deer in mind.

I want to use it on elk - 150 gr, 270 WSM.

Is this a good match?

Seems to me that they would have made it a 130 gr in 270 WSM for deer, and 150 gr for elk. I can't find any 130 gr Fusion for .270 WSM

Never used Fusion ammunition on elk, however the 150 grain Nosler Partition in the .270 Win has been an elk stomper for me. If you have any doubts in the construction of the bullet and if it is suitable for elk then use the Partition. The Federal ammunition loaded with Nosler Partitions is not that much more expensive in the long run.
 
There is nothing particularly thick skined about an elk. Fusions have proven more than capable for large hogs. If they can penetrate the shoulder shield of a hog, they will be plenty for an elk.
 
i have had incredibly good success with 130 gr fusions for deer hunting....i dont see a problem with bullet construction using them for elk, a deer swapped ends on me once when i pulled the trigger and the bullet went in the right buttock area, i found that bullet after it traveled through 3 and a half feet of deer lodged in the front shoulder, after weighing it was at 108 grains....i think thats pretty good...
 
I've taken deer, moose and black bear with fusions in 338wm.

In the case of the moose and the bear the bullets broke heavy bone.

Now a moose is generally somewhat bigger than an elk and all the bullets stayed together and showed good weight retention.
 
I took a whitetail at about 20 yards with a 150 grain fussion in 270wsm. Went trough both shoulders with a golf ball sized exit wound. If that bullet did not fail at 3100fps impact through shoulders, than I think it will do great on an elk.
 
Fedex just delivered my order of 30-06 165grn Fusion from Graf & Sons. If I get lucky on a big hog, I'll try to get a picture for you guys.
