Are Cheaper than Dirt guns good??

My local dealer is having a very hard time getting guns, like most smaller dealers I suspect.

Cheaper than Dirt has the gun I want and am thinking about ordering it from them and having it delivered to my local dealer.

Anyone have any good or bad experiences with CTD?

Hmmmm. CTD doesn't make guns, but sells numerous brands. I don't know why you would be thinking that their guns were any different than those found elsewhere.

Double Naught...I am asking because some people have put horror stories on these forums about other online vendors,,,guns came with quality issues or perhaps factory seconds.

Just wondering how CTD has done for others...I am thinking they are fine but I don't want to ASSUME anything when I am spending hundreds of $$$.

I've never dealt with ctd for firearms. but there one of the bigger online gun retailers so i think you would be fine ordering from them. the only online retailers i have used were gallery of guns, and buds. both were very easy with no problems. you could check on there websites for availability on the guns your looking at, but i think you would be fine ordering from ctd. i have ordered things other then firearms from ctd and have had no problems either.

I've never purchased a firearm from CTD, but I've purchased plenty of other stuff from them. Every experience has been a good one. On the rare occasion where I have had a problem with a specific item, their customer service was very helpful.

I have no reason to believe that their firearms sales would be any different.

By the way, I'm not one of those who hold it against CTD (or any other vendor, for that matter) for raising their prices leading up to and following the 2008 election. I'm a firm believer in a free market economy. They raised their prices because they thought the market would bear those prices. I stopped buying from them until their prices came back down. Their choice. My choice. One of the things that makes the U.S. a great country.

I got my Taurus PT-145 Millennium Pro at CTD several years ago. Nary a problem with it. Wouldn't hesitate to purchase another gun from them if they had what I wanted in stock at a decent price. :D

I've never heard of any on-line dealer selling "factory second" guns. As for quality issues, that's an issue with the manufacturer. I don't know of any gun store that tests new guns for functionality!

Based on my personal experience I would treat them like Walmart. If you know exactly what you want and their prices are good, then buy from them. Do not under any circumstances talk to them expecting educated advise on firearms or accessories. I went in uneducated on my purchase and was pretty much taken to the cleaners on accessories that simply would not work with my rifle I bought from them at the same time. At least they took them all back and refunded them...

I have found them to be typically much more expensive than other online dealers. However, they can have good prices every now and then. I only use them for an emergency purchase since I have their McKinney store about 15 minutes away from me.

Mark, CTD is one of the largest online retailers in the business. You will certainly receive a new-in-box firearm.

Of course there is a possibility that you recieve a product that is faulty or otherwise defective from the manufacturer, just like any product in any type of business. Sometimes people receive a faulty artificial heart or broken chainsaw when they take it out of the box. Firearms are no different. Firearms also come with warranties just like most products.

If you have a firearm shipped to you (probably via an FFL), take it out of the box in the store and look it over. If you're not overly familiar with weapons or with that particular model, ask the FFL to look it over as he's probably very familiar. Have him show you the features of the gun, how to do a basic takedown (such as removing the slide/barrel on a semi-auto pistol) and maybe some other basics.

If either of you find anything wrong, simply call the retailer and ask them what to do. Some will want you to ship the weapon back to them, and others will want you to deal directly with the manufacturer... either way, a good FFL should be more than happy to help you figure out what to do.

Just out of curiosity... which gun are we talking about?

Bought lots of ammo and accessories from them, here in the DFW area. Never had a problem with anything I've bought.

SamNavy...I am looking at a S&W Model 64. CTD and Bud's are the same price when you figure shipping...I just have to wait 18 more days to order it because I just got a Ruger Mark III 22/45 :)

The only thing about Cheaper Than Dirt is that they aren't...........their shipping is some of the worst in the industry and many other beat their prices

I have purchased several guns from CTD over the past 15 years including my last purchase - a Kel-Tec PMR-30. Absolutely no problems. Also purchased a great deal of ammo and othe gun-related items. I lived in Fort Worth, so no shipping.

The only thing about Cheaper Than Dirt is that they aren't...........

That statement (To me) holds water, not dirt. I never heard anybody say cheaper than water (2012 ad).
Dirt is a filtered byproduct of water.:D

I can recommend Bud's, just don't ask them K.I.S.S. question's, and make sure you know what you want to order by a specific model #, also don't go by there picture's.

A few time calling them, and asked e few simple question's,... "I don't know Sr., I don't know Sr....." is completely unexeptable. Lost sale's.

To Bud's: I ordered two S&W (627 V-comp, and an 327 R8 $1000+ea) one from Gilbert's, and Sky in WY, and you already know who Gilbert's is from.

I still recommend Bud's, as long as you know what you want. I compare them to the Walmart of gun stores, if you want to call them that (Mail order).

TBS, you don't go to Walmart and start asking them "What is the best milk":D
