Are any pistol barrels Nickle plated?

I recently read a thread concerning nickle plated Kahr barrels. I've never heard of nickle plating the entire barrel. Chrome lined chamber and barrel, yes, but not nickle. Is this common, something I've just missed :o or is this an unusual treatment? I mistakenly thought the Kahr barrels were simply stainless steel, but the pictures posted definitely show plating (plating problems actually).

Kahr barrels are produced by Walther Lothar. Are they known for plating them too?

Yes, Kahr barrels are plated carbon steel. I don't know, but don't believe, they are internally plated.

As mentioned, any nickel would likely be inadequate to the task of lining a bore.

There are those who suggest that carbon barrels are, ultimately, more accurate than stainless barrels. I know that Kart suggested that for a long time, and still might.

You could put nickle on the inside of a barrel, and it would stay there as long as you did not shoot it. Something to protect the barrels until the gun gets an owner and is shot? Sounds strange.

Yikes! I actually read a good portion of that thread. I can't believe they nickel plated their barrels. I checked and I guess nickel plating can actually increase the hardness of a steel surface. But, nickel is a more reactive metal than chrome and is more prone to flaking, pitting, etc. Maybe nickel plating is an easier process than chrome.

Maybe one of you metallurgists can straighten us out on this.

I have an early stainless steel Kahr K9.
About the only parts that are actual stainless steel are the slide and frame.
Almost all other parts, including the outside of the barrel are hard chrome plated, not nickel.
