Are .357mag semi-autos practical?

I have got this mad urge for something big and ugly. I have heard of Coonan .357s and the desert eagle series, but the DE is a little large... I have also read that the DE series all use the same frame which allows quick caliber changes, this would be a definite upside. I currently have a Beretta92FS w/NS(stainless) which I bought through dealer and with all the current legislation passing, I don't want the feds knocking on my door with their list. That leaves private transfer. My beretta has about 4K through it and the factory hi-caps cost way too much $$$. Last I checked their were only 9 rounds in a DE mag. Therefore they souldn't cost much. Here are the questions: how hard is it to find mag/parts for either guns? What's the least I can expect to pay for either gun? Is there anyone who lives in phoenix who would be willing to trade?

I once had a Coonan Model B and it was accurate, reliable, with a good trigger(between 4 and 5lbs.) Some of the parts are interchangeable with the Gov't Model.

The reason I didn't hold onto it is that if I wanted to use a bullet weight any lower than a 140grain Silvertip I had to change the recoil spring. The factory spring is 22lbs., used a 18.5lb spring for 125grain loads and a 16lb. spring for 110grain loads.

For carry purposes it makes more sense than a Desert Eagle unless your HUGE!

If all you care about is having .357 ballistics in a semiauto you might want to check into .38Super, 9x23, and .357Sig....
