Are ..22's generally LESS accurate since the .22 WMR was introduced?

Just hit me the other day. ALL my really superbly accurate .22's predate the WMR. I ....used to have.... a Ruger Single Six that would group less than half inch at 25 yards. My K22 (vintage 1960) is a hot setup also.

I just wondered if the mfrs are boring ALL .22 barrels to handle the mag also and that's why the gilt-edge accuracy seems to be lacking nowadays.

I've not noticed this.

E.g., I used to have a LH Remington 581 that was an absolute tack driver. A Browning Micro Buckmark that I bought new in 1997 is very accurate. And, believe it or not, my current 10/22 that I bought new a couple years ago is quite accurate.

Not anything I have noticed. I have High Standards from the 70's, a DW M22 from the 70's, and a S&W M17 also from the 70's and they all are very good shooters.

I...think.... a 1970's M 17 would be AFTER they began making the extra WMR cylinders.

When WAS the WMR introduced?

According to "Cartridges of the World", 10th edition, the WMR was introduced in 1959. I do not think there has been any decrease in accuracy in regular .22s since then. Quantrill

I would think that the only .22s that are less accurate, are those for guns designed to fire both .22lr and .22 WMR, where the .22 WMR will most likely be more accurate.

Colt did use 22 WMR dimensioned barrels on some, but not all, 22 LR Diamondback revolvers. The grouping ability of these revolvers is not as good as that of Diamondbacks that have a barrel with "standard" dimensions.
