Arcus (sp?) Hi-Power for $359 at show - any good?

Title pretty much says it all - I found one at a local gunshow and am contemplating getting it, but I don't want to if the company making it sucks.

Is it a big POS, or does Arcus (Argus) make good Hi-Powers?

Have read good things about them. Believe they are now orphaned as no one is importing them. Saw them advertised in ShotgunNews a little while back for about~$190.

From what I'm reading on that fnhipower.com site, it appears that standard Hi Power grips don't fit them... nor standard ambi safeties... anyone else have any information on them? I don't want to buy it tomorrow and make a mistake...

OK guns, but I think the price is a little high.

(A used Hi-Power can sometimes be found in good shape for $50-$75 more. I'd rather have the real thing.)

For that price you can get a NEW CZ-75B, and probably have a better gun.

I own a Arcus-94 and have been very pleased. 3000 rounds so far and not a failure of any kind. I paid $211.00 for mine (new) early last year. I have been told that Miltex is no-longer importing the Arcus into the US, that may be one reason for the $359 price tag. Very Good Pistol, it shoot as well as my BHP-Standard.

PS- It has been the standard issue sidearm for the Bulgarian Military since 1994.

Take Care

I have an arcus. I paid $200 plus shipping for one with one ten rounder and one 17 round high cap. My gun is the two tone one. Good gun. I put aftermarket grips on mine, they fit fine. I also put a commander style hammer out of an inglis highpower in it. It dropped right in. Check the gun auctions for awhile. I saw a couple of arcus highpowers about a month ago for about $250 on them. Also miltex is out of business. Mine was imported by a different company and I think it might be gone too.

Spark, see my reply on "Quality of steel, etc, on Arcus 94." I think it is a little high but in five years who will care? At the end of these five years the Arcus 94 will owe you nothing. Regards, Richard.
