Hi, guys!

Does anybody know if Arcus 98 Compact is a good pistol or not? Is it worth $270 for a new pistol?
Please note that I am a Bulgarian, so I will not have any problems with its maintanance.
If you know something of this kind about the normal Arcus 98 please let me know as well.

For those who can't remember or don't know - Arcus 98 is a Bulgarian clone of the famous Browning HP. It is a successor to Arcus 94, with major modifications being the DA mode of fire and firing pin blocking.

Thank you very much in advance!

Bilbo,

Why would it matter that you're Bulgarian? Do you have some secret maintenance tips that non-Bulgarians can't get? ;)

I suspect Arcus Compact is as well made as its big brother. Do you have a Mak?

So many pistols, so little money.

LOL
:)My Arcus 94 is a fine little gun. If the 98 has improved it should be great! :)

Thanks for your opinions, guys!

Railroader, unfortunately I don't know Arcus to have a webpage. They seemingly do not have e-mail either, but I can give you the phones, if you are interested.

Tecolote, since I live in Bulgaria and Arcus is made here as well, if the pistol breaks I can even go directly to the manufacturer. That's all the secret. No, I don't have a Mak, but I often go to a public range, where I shoot with one and I really like it very much. Its only drawback IMHO is the lower energy of the 9.2x18 Mak ammo compared to the 9x19 Luger. Do you have any experience with the big Arcus 98?

Jeffer, Arcus 98 is really much improved. It has a double-action trigger, smoother design, new rubber grips and what is very important, IMHO, it has a firing pin blocking, which deactivates with the trigger pull. This does not allow the gun to fire undesirably if dropped onto hard surface. It also has been approved as the standard handgun of the Bulgarian Army.

It seems that Arcus 98 has never been imported in the USA, which is really very sad as it is a good and cheap pistol.
Anyway I will wait for more replies even concerning Arcus 94.
Thanks again! :)
