I watched these the other day when somebody brought this up on another thread. This is an old (and still used) liberal satire of pro-second amendment people. Meathead and halfwit screetching wife, all knowing, giving their sage advice to Archie as he stumbles is way through everything as the typical buffoon. It is funny, I guess because I typically agree with Archie even though his side is always portrayed as buffoonish. I think the only thing Norman Leftist Lear ever made that I ever really liked was Prince's Bride (no leftist agenda, just fun movie)

Comments on these scenes?

I would not say that Archie Bunker's ideas are portayed as "buffoonish". I think most of the time his opinions are portrayed as poorly expressed beliefs that have a hint of wisdom behind them. He just doesn't have the grace to put them properly into words.

I will agree with your thoughts on Princess Bride though...that is one of the all time great movies.

In the end Mike ends up being shown for the two faced blowhard he is when he leaves his wife and child for another woman and Gloria has to go to work for the Penguin at a vets office.

WOW, I didn't ever see that. I do know Edith died towards the end of the show and they changed it to Archie's Place and he had a grandaughter or neice to take care of.

Yeah, it mostly happened in "Gloria" which was a spin off of "All in the Family".

That show had several spin offs. "Gloria", "The Jeffersons", "704 Hauser Street", "Archie's Place", and of course "Maude"...which then spun off "Good Times."

This moment in TV history has been brought to you by "Geeks With No Lives"...Thank you.
