AR15 vs FAL

Probably the million time you guys have seen this topic, but I really am in a quandry. I already have a few 308's: M1a, AR10...I love 'em both and they work great. It's bean about six months since my last gun buy and I've got the itch again. Sould I get another 308 like a FAL or get a 223 AR? Arguments for the AR: I don't have a 223, ammo is cheaper, less penetration in a hypothetical urban riot/TSHTF type scenario. Cons: less power, (well it is a varmit round after all), more expensive mags.

Any suggestions/comments welcome.
Also: any you guys in the Wash DC metro area? Looking for shotting buddies.

Moving to rifle...

But uh... There is no compairison...
The FAL is the BADDEST rifle there is.

You might laugh in the face of FEAR... but unless your armed, its a nervous, unconvincing, little laugh.

I now own both. I have as yet little experience with the FAL.

First impresions: AR wins on ergonomics. Sights are similar enough. Accuracy favors the AR. Ease of disassembly, FAL. Reliability has been a 100% wash for now, FAL might be easier to troubleshoot if anything happens. Mags are cheaper for FAL. Terminal ballistics favor .308 big time which is why I wanted the FAL. Until I know that it is reliable, I might rely on a Mak90 in-house and a Garand outside. The AR15 is great if I must hump it a long way and its flat trajectory makes it a win over the other rifles I have for quick hits. What really goes for the AR and the FAL over the Mak90 and Garand is the ammo availability.

My preference for the AR is well known here, but in this case I would say: buy a FAL. The reason is, with the parts import ban by the ATF, FAL prices are on the rise and they are only going to get worse. You need to buy a good FAL clone NOW and get yourself as many mags as you can afford NOW. AIM Surplus at www.aimsurplus.com has FAL mags 10 for $6.50 each. Get them NOW.
You can save up and buy an AR later...they aren't going anywhere for the time being.

RikWriter:

Which company do you advise buying from? I've seen ads by DSA, Enterprise, etc. but am at a loss as to which is better quality.

Prof, my advice would be to do one of three things:
1)If you have the money, buy a preban Belgian. I did and I LOVE it. :D
2)If you have around $1200-1400, try to find a DSA FAL on one of the online gun ad boards like www.subguns.com and buy that.
3)If funds are limited, buy an Imbel receiver and a parts kit OR an Imbel-receiver Century Arms kit gun and send it to Derek Huffman of Azex Arms.

Snicker....Apple Vs. Orange...you decide!
.380 Vs. .45 acp
.22LR Vs. .30-06
Nike tennis shoes Vs. Herman Survivor boots

What do you want to do with it? So many flavors, sizes, uses! If you can only buy one? Buy the one that you can do the most with...(Hint, it's not a .22, no matter how much powder is behind it).

I have the CAI FAL Wl Imbel Receiver and 30 mags. What spare parts are best to have and where do I get them? Thanks

Oh, yeah buy the FAL!!!
