AR15 Tritium sight set

Does anyone have practicle experience with either the Trijicon or Heso/Meprolight tritium sight set for an AR15 type rifle?

I have the "new" Trijicon front site, but
not the rear. you can get the front only,
from Brownells.

the new front site is pretty cool, it
allows you to rotate the sight body for
zeroing with quarter-turns yet you can keep
the dot facing to the rear. the old
Trijicon (and the Mepro, I believe),
require full-turn adjustments on the front
to keep the dot facing rearward.

quality is good, all of the Trijicons I
have appear well-made.

Unfortnately the detent pin is not long enough to fully engage the Trijicon front sight when it is set to the proper height allowing it to rotate freely. I also do not like it's blade like profile. Trijicon's rear sight is a gem! I went with the Meprolight front sight. It comes with an extended detent pin, is of the "2 piece" design like the Trij. allowing th tritium to be seen at all adjustment points and it is a normal A1 profile. This setup has worked very well for me for several years. If you must have a Trijicon front sight I have one that I can let you have cheap!

Get only a front nite sight and don't bother with a rear nite sight. It's too close to your eye to use anyway. Take your AR into a dark room and you'll find that you can still see through the aperture. A rear nite sight offers no advantage. It's the front sight you've got to find.
