I'm looking for a compound to make the thumbhole portion of my Accuracy International AWP's stock more comfortable. The Stock panels are made of reinforced nylon. What I have in mind is some sort of puddy that can be applied, I then grab the stock inprinting my hand into the puddy so it fits perfectly, then let the stuff set-up.

Any of yous have an idea on what to use?

Thanks in advance.

I was told about BJ Weld which may be about the same stuff DZ mentioned. I don't know about putting your hand in the stuff though? I would think a rounded file, sand paper and patience would work better.

Gunny, I know that the JB Weld will be too runny for the task. For the price you paid, AI should tell you of a product that will work WHILE sticking to the nylon.
Just a thought.

DZ - Looked over the link provided. Looks like it may work. Have you ever used it?

Karsten - Have used JB Weld on many many occasions. Keep tubes of it right next to the duct-tape and baling wire. :D It will not work for this purpose as Hank Stated. The AWP's stock in not a stock in the normal sense... more of a skin. Removing any material would be ill advised.

Hank - Already called them. From their point of view the stock is perfect and needs no modification. I will admit that basically it is a great stock... I just want to make it fit perfectly for ME (which after I'm done will give me an excuse why no one else can shot it ;) )

used it?

i want the 90 pound drum!

In college we called it sculptors friend.

Need to stick a bottle on a bronze groundhog?
PC7!

Need to glue the un gluable?
wrap it with wire & trowel on the PC7

Even if the compound doesn't stick to a material,
it bonds to itself so well, it rock encases the item.
i used an exoskeleton of PC7 to permanently repair a split shift lever on my VW Thing.

it mixes up like play dough and hardens to stone

you can work it as it sets and sponge smooth the texture or
you could engrave it with an edge while it sets up.

since the 2 materials are black & white
when you mix up equal amounts you get a 50% grey color

DZ,

Can't get a more glowing recomendation then that! A few more questions if you please....

I'm thinking on getting the 1# size. I think this would make the two "golf ball' size portions I need (with a bunch left over). Am I correct in this?

Can anything be added (dye or something) to make it totally black or can it be painted after it hardens?

This stuff sounds like it will be replaceing the JB Weld I keep around.

I appreciate your input and will let you know how it comes out.
