AR slings?

I need a new sling for my DPMS AP4, I attached a picture of the rifle with the sling that came with the gun. The sling works for carrying the gun around but as far as steadying the gun it does squat, it streches and you can never get a good wrap with it. What would you guys suggest? Should I just deal with it or are there any good slings that will work well with the AR platform?

PS: I took the carry handle off and mounted the scope on a flat top riser, did a world of difference.

I have a pair of Vtacs, and they are pretty hard to beat in my opinion. Condor makes a Vtac knock off that is decent too, for bald the price. But if you're really wanting to sling up, the M14 slings are still as usefilul as ever if you ask me. Thats what I have on my Appleseed guns.

Another vote for the VTAC. I love those slings. In my opinion simple and adjustable is better.

The sling on a rifle depends on what type shooting you do.

I have to ARs, on used for High Power, it has a 1907 type leather military sling, perfect for position shooting. I have a two point on my other AR, for used in multi or three gun matches that require transition to a pistol.

the CMP Bookstore sells a DVD put out by the CMP/AMU called "Close Quarter Combat". (a whopping $6.95). Its a great DVD for one interested in multi or three gun. It goes over the slings used for transition and how to use the sling for support.

I agree with kraigwy. If you want to sling up to stabilize your position, it is hard to beat a good 1907 leather sling. If you need the sling to be a little more versatile on the carry positions, then one of the quick-adjust 2-points is the way to go.

On with Kraigwy and Bart, I also have to suggest the USGI web sling. It can be formed into the hasty sling, hasty-hasty sling, or a loop sling for prone. The best part is the simplicity and functionality of it. It was literally designed for Marksmen.

Another endorsement for the good ol' GI cotton websling! I have used one at several Navy matches with excellent results.

I shoot an AR in service rifle matches and have been happy with the performance of the Turner "All Weather Synthetic" (AWS) sling. I've found that it stretches less and is more comfortable than its leather equivalent. They are kind of pricey, though.

Depends on what you want the sling to do
-- for a fighting rifle you're best served by an adjustable two point sling. You don't sling up in a gun fight. For hunting or range work the
adjustable two point might not be ideal.

The only thing I fight is prarie dogs. I dont need anything too tacticool, the vtac is nice cause I could easily adjust it fast.

It just so happens that a 2-Point Quick Adjust is also most effective and useful for most other uses as well. ;)
