AR sight opinions

So, I'm ready to get going on this build and I'm looking for a good set of sights. Criteria is they must fold, must be steel or aluminum and they must work well in conjunction with each other front and rear. Off the top of my head is either a YHM set being my cheaper option or going real expensive with a Troy tritium set. I'm not sure if the Tritium is worth the cost, considering I'll have a streamlight mounted to this gun and I don't want to have to replace the sight in 10 years...

any opinions on sights you can give me before I make a purchase? as always, thanks..

YHM, MI and Troy all make good stuff.

Out of all the above, I'm partial to Troy Folding Battlesights for their durability and ease of use. I don't think anyone needs the tritium inserts, but I can see their utility.

IMO, I wouldn't bother with tritium, especially if we're talking backup sights. Better to put that money into a better primary optic.

As for sights, you've named good ones. I have several MI rear sights- they're just fine and work well, but they're not as low profile as the Troys. YHM makes good stuff too. Hard to go wrong.

The Magpul MBUS are a good budget option, but they're really intended for pure backup purposes- if you're thinking about using these as your main sights until you get an optic (or you're just not getting an optic), than skip the Magpuls (but if you do get them, don't mount the front one to a gas block rail... it will melt). Just keep in mind that even Magpul says the MBUS is a budget option; good for what it is at that price, but they are not intended to compete with actual metal sights such as those you mentioned.

Technosavant, I have an MBUS rear on my RRA. You're right, it's good for what it is - an emergency sight. Plus, I want to keep that rifle as light as possible so an MBUS comes in handy for that. My current AR build is going to be a mid length that comes without sights and I will be using irons until I decide on an optic for it...leaning towards a standard m4 style troy front and rear, folding no tritium...

thanks for the input guys

I have only Troy and one MBUS. Bought the Troys based on recommendations and they are good. Very solid, easy to use, and I think they are still the lowest profile folding rear sight. Plenty sturdy to use as primary sights. There may be others just as good, but you won't go wrong with Troy.

I have the MBUS on a rifle with a 1-3x24 scope. They are low profile enough for folding under a Wilson mount with a compact scope. Lightweight and simple.
