Another thread has me considering getting an additional Upper for my Bushmaster Dissapator. Was thinking about one from Olympic Arms in 10mm. Am I correct in assuming that Uppers do not require a NICS check but Lowers do? That is, could I order an Upper from whoever and have it shipped directly to me? Am I being a bad AR owner by having only the original Upper available? How many Uppers for each Lower do youse guys have?

You can get an upper shipped right to your door. If I had more $$$ (poor college student lol) I would get a 16" M4 upper for my Bushy DCM. All in all I would like to have about 6 uppers in the future...

The lower receiver is considered a firearm under federal law. The upper is not, and is therefore no different from any other unregulated gun part in the eyes of the law.

Of course, thanks to our stupid politicians, doing things with otherwise unregulated parts can be illegal, e.g., installing a pre-ban upper on a post-ban lower.
