AR Question?

I have an item for sale on another forum. I have the item marked at 500 bucks shipped for it. Well, Another guy wants to make a trade with me. This is what he has to trade and this is exactly what he said.

"the upper I have is a 204 Ruger with a 22 inch schilen barrel YHM upper reciever, Houge freefloat tube. It has been shot less than 150 rounds. I paid $700 for it I would be interested in a straight across trade."

Well, I dont know all that much about AR's yet. My question to you AR guys, How are Yankee Hill Ar's and does this sound like a good deal or not? All opions please. Thank you all.

Yankee Hill makes quality AR parts and if they are assembled properly you won't have any issues. I've used their parts on my AR and AK builds and have never had an issue.

Is he wanting to trade a complete rifle or just the upper. Is it a complete upper with BCG. Either way, the YHM upper with Shilen barrel sounds like a pretty good set-up to me. Of course if it is just the upper and you don't have a lower to put it on, it's just an ornament. .204 Ruger is a good varmint round but it will be a little more expensive to shoot than .223/5.56 Nato unless you reload then it probably won't matter.

He is just wanting to trade the complete upper for my item. I know that I would have to get the lower reciever for it. Im trying to figure out if it is worth it or not. I do have a use for it. I would use it for hunting. I just dont know much about AR stuff right now.

Here are a new pictures of it.

Looks like a quite good AR upper for a varmint hunting AR. Completing it with a lower should run no more than $300 (and that's assuming a decent stock and a two stage trigger).

The question is, do you need a varmint AR? This isn't one that would be good for self defense and the ammo is a bit expensive for plinking. If you don't need a varmint style AR-15, then give it a miss. If you've been thinking you want to go out and pop some groundhogs or prairie dogs, then go for it. If you want something for self defense or paper punching, give it a miss.

It's a quality varmint upper, great barrel. Ammo is spendy if you don't reload. If you want a varmint upper then it looks like a fair trade to me. You'll need optics.
