AR Question

After taking off my hanguard i noticed that the top gasket or ring right after the delta ring is bent up in 4 different places. Is this normal? The other one is completly flat below it. I didnt notice it before because the hangaurd covered it when it was on. Sorry im nopt too familiar with the platform and I dont know the termonology too well so bare with me. If you need me to explain it better and you have no idea what im talking about let me know. Thanks
 
I believe what you are seeing is the weld spring. Do a search online for "AR15 delta ring assembly" and you can find pictures.
 
The delta ring assembly includes the ring itself, the spring, and a lock ring (which holds the assembly on the barrel nut). You're seeing the spring. If it wasn't there, the delta ring couldn't apply pressure to the handguard, which means they'd be in constant danger of falling off.
