ar build question?

I am building my first ar. I want a mid length gas system with a 16 inch barrel. With magpul parts front to rear. I approached the local shop to order parts and they suggested using lar grizzly uppers, Wilson combat barrel, spikes lower, and pws bcg and trigger mechanism. Whilst I've heard of spikes I've never heard or used any of the other brands. Are these good parts? Please leave feedback on quality of parts and if you've used them before? Also do I need 1 in 9 or 1 in 7 twist? I know milspec is 1in7 but this isn't a duty weapon it strictly to eliminate threats to my domicile and once a month shooting days. I am getting a great price on these pats I just don't know much about them other than the spikes. Thanks

You were given good advice concerning components selection. I've been building ARs for personal use since the early 1980s and I wouldn't hesitate to use any of the recommended components. Those parts will build a good AR.

A 1/7 twist will allow you to shoot single-loaded 77 and 80 grain VLD bullets (typically used for 800+ yard target shooting). A 1/9 twist will allow you to shoot bullets up to 75 grains (loaded to feed from the magazine).

So 1 in 9 will work fine.....we usually just shoot the binary exploding targets from about 50 yards with the mini 14. Thanks......now the question is should I have it coated in atacs?
