Hope you folks can help me here. I am working on a lower and its basically complete. I have decided to go for the basic A2 type stock. Is there anybody who makes one out of carbon fiber? If so can you point me in the right direction.

Don't know of a carbon fiber butt stock offhand. Check someone like Bravo Company, LMT, of Spikes. They might have a line on one.

That's not necessary at all.

DSG Arms, BCM, and Rainier always have plain A2s and A1s in stock. But really, the A2 stock design just sucks. Do yourself a favor and get a Vltor Emod or Imod and enjoy supreme cheek weld but great ergonomics. The A2 stock is quite cumbersome if you're wearing a coat, aren't over 6ft tall, or have armor on.

Believe me, I have one.

Instead of the A2, I would go with the Magpul PRS. It uses the same receiver extension as the A2 without the A2 buffer, plus it has an adjustable LOP and comb height so you can set it to the same dimensions as the A2, or adjust it to your liking.

The PRS is fine if you plan on just shooting from a bench or prone, but not really suitable for a stand up rifle.

Go with the UBR. It's got the benefits of the fixed stock, but is also collapsible, to fit different shooters.

I have five AR's and four different stock configurations. You want the stock to match the rest of the rifle. A 14.5-16 inch rifle really should have a collapsible stock. I have two Vltor A5 Emods and they are very nice stocks. A 20 inch rifle feels fine with the A1 or A2 and a bench rifle works great with the PRS.

Buy the stock you like in mil-spec size and match the buffer weight to the rifle.

If you want a fixed stock you should also look into ACE stocks, RRA Operator A2 stock, Choate e-2 stock, DPMS skeleton A2 stock, or even Magpul's ACS collapsible stock which is longer when collapsed than most other collapsible stocks. Or just go with a regular A2 stock like I did, I ordered mine from RRA.

As has been mentioned, I would go with a collapsible. There are so many advantages especially when it comes to shooting in a heavy coat, etc. I also just find the LOP of an A2 too long.

That said, I'm in the process of swapping out a gently used A2 stock with a Magpul CTR. If you are interested in buying it, send me a PM.

All good ideas and that is a big problem I am having as there are too many to choose from. Its going to have a 20 inch upper when I am done and will probably be a bench rifle more than anything. Maybe pop some ground hogs with it from time to time. I would like to find an A-2 stock made from carbon fiber as I'm looking at a carbon fiber hand guard for the upper. Be cool to have it match.

The Magpul PRS is an excellent stock, but it is HEAVY, and not suited for a gun that may be shot while on the move/standing.

Stocks to consider:

Magpul UBR
Vltor Rifle Modstock (available in A1 and A2 lengths)
or a standard A1 or A2 stock.

For collapsible models, there is the Magpul MOE, CTR, and ACS; and the Vltor IMod and EMod.

In the collapsible department, I've tried the MOE and ACS, I found the ACS excellent but a little too heavy. I'm currently using the IMod, and I love it. It offers the cheekweld of the ACS, but the weight of the MOE or CTR. It's the ideal combo for me.

In fixed stocks, I have a PRS, and while it will stay on my bench gun, future guns will get the Vltor A5 Modstock system. It really is the future for AR buffer/receiver/stock systems.
