AR Bolt Carrier Group Question

Add a small amount of mass to slightly slow down the timing of the rifle. In practical terms I doubt there is a shooter on the planet who is good enough to tell the difference between an M16 BCG and an AR15 BCG simply by firing the weapon.

The extra weight of the M16 carrier can slow down bolt unlocking and help prevent failure-to-extract issues with carbines that are over gassed or shooting cartridges with slow powders or shooting on hot days.

Slowing down bolt unlocking is why heavy buffers (H, H2, H3) are available as aftermarket items.

I have several AR 15's one has a M-16 carrier. I have switched that bolt and carrier with the others that have the M-15 assembly and I have not noticed noticable any difference.
Mine are all semi-auto. I think the difference would be in a full auto operation.

What everyone said before me.

None that an average shooter can tell as far as function.

Another Milspec item to check on the list IMO. ;)

I have three A1 stocked ARs. 2 have M16 carriers and one has a semi. You can tell which one has the semi by the sound when shooting them. It sounds "sproingier". I think the heavier carriers are compressing the buffer spring more than the semi.

slightly different weight and slightly different materials...all in all, you are not going to notice any difference at all and you will notice absolutely nothing different about it.

The materials may not even be any different. There's really high quality AR BCGs, there's mediocre full auto ones. Heck, the only difference at all is the cut to the bottom rear of the bolt carrier; the bolts are the exact same.

Generally, the increased weight of the M16 carrier is seen as a good thing, but I don't lose any sleep over the semiauto carriers I have in my go-to guns.

The DD BCG is top notch. The bolt is HP tested and MPI although they are not always marked as such.

recommend the BCM over the DD

Thanks! I had looked at the BCM BCG as well. Great company that also stands behind their products.

Aim Surplus has the DD BCGs for $129 delivered:http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XDD9300&name=Daniel+Defense+MPI+Tested+Bolt+Carrier+Group&groupid=150.

They are just as nice as my BCMs and Colts. As a bonus, the logo is subdued. I have two of them. For some reason, I cannot stand the bright Spikes or PSA logo, which go for $109. But really, any of the above will function fine. Surplus Ammo even has a FA BCG for $95 that is supposed to be good to go.
