AR 7.62 upper

Anybody have experience with the 7.62 x 39 upper on their AR? I have a Colt and am out of .223 ammo but I have a bunch of 7.62 ammo. If I get the new upper I could delay re-stocking .223. Anybody have experience with it?
Thanks

7.62 what? If you mean NATO,7.62x51,its a whole different rifle. If you mean 7.62x39....I have no experience, but the case taper, mag curve factor may,not for sure, but may, have different feed characteristics.
You might 1)Sell or trade the 7.62 or2)buy an SKS,AK-47,Saiga,Ruger mini-30,etc

oops, edited it, 7.62 x 39, don't want to sell or trade ammo 'cause then my "commie guns" will go hungry. What we really need is less variety in ammo calibers but which round wins?

I know some folks that have been trying for a year to get one to run reliably. The biggest problem seems to come from the mags. The ar mag well is too straight for the tapered cartridge and feeding issues occur if the mag is loaded with more than about 8 rounds

I have a bushmaster 7.62x39. I have cproducts magazines. All of them (upper and mags) run fine.
I run crappy steel-cased Russian ammo.

C-Products mags work fine in my 7.62x39 upper. While I've used the Wolf steel ammo, I find that brass cased handloads are much more accurate and consistently eject to the same spot(steel cases are scattered over a large area). I'm using an old supply of Remington .309 125 grain PSP bullets but have a good supply of Hornady 123 Vmax .310 that hopefully will be as good.

Mobuck, which upper are you using? Same as doofus? I'm leaning towards the Bushmaster (an aquaintence has one I could trade a pistol for) but I'm kinda on the fence. Don't want to trade a good pistol or spend $ on a clunker upper.

I'm not much of an AR guy, really more into hanguns so I need "plug-n-play" and don't want to fiddle with the lower in any way, it's pre-ban if that matters.

Any recommendations for a...

1990's Colt H-BAR with the screw joint?

The .22 nice for shooting but feel better using .30 for SERIOUS situations.

Honestly, I am torn between my AR15 w/7.62x39 upper (M4 style) and my 20" barrel Russian SKS. I think they are about equal on accuracy. The AR is mucho lighter, the longer barrel on the SKS means the bullets are probably a little faster. The sights would be better on the AR, but I use the see-through scope mount on the SKS to have a similar aperture sight picture using the SKS. Lord knows the "tactical" scope that came on the SKS was next to worthless.

If I put all my semi-auto experiences/likes/dislikes in a blender, I'd probably buy a Chinese M or D SKS that takes AK mags. And add an aperture sight to it. 16" barrel, fairly sturdy, pretty accurate, hi-cap mag capable, short-throw piston gas system with the SKS tilting bolt action, which I prefer from my Hakim days.

I really like the SKS too, mine are Norincos, check out the laser etched bolt but this AR is primo and you can add all kinds of (relatively usless) stuff, which I have done

I will probably just get a few thousand more .223 rounds, should be good for a little while.

"Screw joint", COLT's bohinca to the brady group,

to preclude the standard pin joint and swapping out uppers!

Just as they did with the larger firing assembly pins are larger than the mil-spec pins.

I've seriously been thinkin' about reloading, with as much shooting as me and my sons have been doing these days, I'm just too lazy, it's easier to pick up a case or 2 at the gun show.

Mine is a Colt factory upper with A2 sight and 16" Hbar. It's been used on 3 or 4 lowers at various times. One item of note is that the 7.62x39 will produce bumpfire occurances with light triggerpulls if care is not exercised.

7.62x39mm

I have a 7.62x39mm upper from Model 1 Sales. I have run thousands of rounds through it. Runs like a champ. I limit my range to about 200 yards. With open sights I can't hit much beyond 200 yards.

Get the 7.62x39 upper and have fun!
