AR-15

I dropped my FN to be sent back and fixed (the gas piston is not working) and while at the gun store, I saw a beautiful Bushmaster 16 inch barreled target model with detachable A2 sights. So, I bought it :) I love it! I have already put 250 rounds through it, no jams or malfunctions and it is as accurate as I have ever seen a semi auto. I have a few questions though, is it normal to hear the spring in the butt stock vibrate when you fire? I seem to remember that it is, but havn't shot an M16 or AR-15 for years. Another thing, how accurate can these rifles be? Im wondering if Im doing good or need a lot of improvement. Also, how is the target model different from the regular? And advice (that is good :), tid bits of information, or instruction is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to AR15s! You'll soon be broke from buying all kinds of new uppers and accessories :)

Yes the "sproing" sound is normal. Some people coat the spring with tetra grease to stop the "sproing". But it never bothered me.

Spec on these is 4MOA but I've never seen one that shot that poorly. Most are 2MOA out of the box.

the funny spring sound drove me nuts for a while, i am getting used to it, now its kind of like a sensor to tell that the gun is workign as usual.

How Accurate? I'm by no means an expert shooter, but off a good rest, supported, with a 16" carbine and stock A2 iron sights at 100 yards I shoot 2 MOA and consider that to be shooting at the practical capability of this rifle. I'd challenge anyone to do better than 1.5 MOA with a 20" rifle with standard sights considering that iron sights offer no magnification and 1 inch at that distance is inperceptable.

You just fell prey to the lego set that shoots.

The "TWANG!" is normal.

I recomend you find a cromed bolt group and get Orlites.

If you want to see the ultimate in accuracy out of your new ar have a free float tube installed and a competition trigger.

I have had a few Compass Lake 2 stage triggers installed and have installed the Jewell trigger in another.

All of my AR rifles are sub moa guns with these mods and tuned loads.

Just a wild guess, but I'll bet that sub-m.o.a. is with optics. My Bushy carbine sports a free-floated barrel and JP trigger/hammer combo. Shoots .5", with my handloads and Bergers or Sierra 69gr. hpbt match bullets. (Of course, that's with a scope!)

my bushie shorty ak has a really loud twang from the spring. it's louder than any military m-16. i think i am going to swap the bushie spring for a colt or armalite one.

i've only shot mine about 500 runds, but it never jamed yet and that's with cheap russian steel cased stuff

Wadda matta? Don't like pogo sticks?

Put some heavy grease from your auto parts store on the spring and buffer and that should silence the silly "boing" in the AR.
