I have a basic 16" carbine (Rock River /PWA),that is quite inexpensive. Can I get a recommendation for an inexpensive scope?
Thanks

What will be your primary use for it? Do you need magnification or are you looking for a red dot? Cheap scopes are more than adequate for plinking and general playing around.

Tracer, you need to tell us at what maximum distances you plan to shoot and what size targets you want to engage.

There are far too many scopes out there to just say "get the XXXXXXX scope!"

Since you have a carbine I will assume, for now, that you will not be shooting great distances (not more than 200 yards). In this case I would highly recommend the AMT 5x33L Professional scope. It's a fixed 5x scope with lots of features like: etched reticles (not suspended wire), 10 position illuminated reticles, BDC out to 500 yards (specifically for the 5.56mm round), range finder and coated lenses. All this for about $200.

I have one of these on one of my 16" carbines and have been more than pleased with it. The AMT was specifically designed for the M16/AR15 so it is one rugged scope.

i really like my colt 3x20 carry handle scope

i have heard that the leapers chinese clones are OK & they are only 40 bucks

I have had good luck with the 4 power Colt carrying handle scope. One thing to think of is that one of the virtues of an AR15/M16 is that it is a light and handy weapon. Installing a large, bulky, heavy scope is counter productive.

My shooting is limited to below 200 yards.I prefer something compact.By the way, thanks for all the response.Incidentally,I am left eye dominant, but right handed.

I guess that you need to define inexpensive also. Handle mounted knockoff 4x's can be had for <$50. I believe that the AMT professional the CMOS is recommending runs about $300 (if I'm thinking of the right scope). Is that right CMOS? I've heard a lot of good comments about the AMT Professionals. I'm also right eye dom and left handed with a longarm. Red dots allow you to keep both eyes open but are not the the optimum choice for long shots (at least for me as my eyes are getting old and fuzzy)

No, the AMT 5x33 Professional can be found in the range of $170-$200 without any problems. This scope easily equils scopes in the $300-$400 range.

CMOS :)
