AR-15 Scope for 3 Gun

I'm building a flat-top AR15 for 3 gun competition. Anybody recommend a good scope?

Phill- it depends on the courses of fire you plan to encounter.In our group everyone seems to use a 3-9 or something close to it. We regularly shoot from contact distance out to 200 yards, but every once in a while there's a match with nothing past 25 or 50 yards. It may be the course designs or it may be range limitations, but a big scope is a handicap in this type of match. Some competitors mount a dot scope beside or on top of the variable scope, I have a different rifle for these matches with only a dot scope. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that you really need to analyze what your needs are going to be before you can determine how to set up your rifle. This was probably no help at all...........

Course of fire is very important. In the last match I shot there was a stage that required close in shooting and the one competitor with a 3x9, even at the lowest setting was way too slow in aquiring the targets.

For most use out to 300 yards, I'd recommend a Trijicon Reflex or an Aimpoint Comp M or other optic of this type. Past 300 yards I'd go for magnification.

I saw a Leupold Tactical Scope that varied form 1 to 10x. Anybody used it? Does a Red Dot give you any advantage?

U.S. Optics SN-4 is an ultra-quality 1-4x variable scope that is designed for AR type rifles in CQB applications. The clarity of the 30mm optics is fabulous. I've tried one and on the 1x setting it is a very quick sight. The SN-4 is used by the Seals and is supposed to be popular with the "special ops" crowd. U.S. Optics has a special on a run of scopes they built for the Department of Energy. These scopes have a duplex illuminated reticle, instead of the standard "dot in a circle" reticle. They are definitely expensive; but I liked the one I tried. Check out their web-site. Good Shooting! Kurt
 
Does it strike anyone else as alarming that the department of energy is ordering illuminated reticle US Optics scopes??!!
 
Considering the nature of the materials DOE escorts, no. I'd rather they have the best of everything...even over the FBI HRT.
 
IMHO, it seems like some of our military elite could be used to handle that detail. I have heard some screwy things about some of the DOE security guys at a couple of Nuclear facilities.

I agree 100% that the stuff should be adequately protected, but I think it should be protected by Marshalls, SS, SEALs or the like.

true, that was why I threw in the Marshalls and the SS.
The fewer socialist Bureacrats have access to the means of oppression, the better, as far as I'm concerned.
