AR-15 Range Report

Took the DPMS Panther DCM, AR-15, to the range yesterday for the first time. The weather was not the best. It rained for about 15 minutes, but the outing was worth it.

I cleaned the barrel after every round for the first 5 rounds, then after every 5 rounds. This was a time consuming process. We only managed to fire 22 rounds.

The rifle functioned perfectly, no malfunctions of any kind. Accuracy was good also. The group spread was 3” at 100 yards. I attribute this to our shooting ability. I am sure that this rifle is much more accurate. One of the 3 shot groups was almost in a perfect horizontal line, the center hole was in the 9 ring (at 6 o’clock) with the remaining holes 1 1/2” on each side.

I made a mistake in zeroing because I forgot to review the zeroing instructions before going to the range. I raised the elevation 10 clicks up and proceeded to adjust the front sight up 3 clicks (3/4 of a complete turn) to get in the black. When I got home, read the instructions, and discovered that 4 clicks up is recommended. If my calculations are correct, the 10 clicks up on the rear/3 clicks up on the front should equal 4 clicks up on
the rear/1 click up on the front. This sounds confusing, does this make more sense and is it correct?

Rear up 10 corrected to up 4
Front up 3 corrected to up 1

I appreciate comments and suggestions from the experts at TFL.
