I recently ordered some AR-15 parts from http://www.sableco.com/ and thought I'd share my experiences and evaluation of the parts with you. I know I rely heavily on this board to help me make good decisions and hopefully, this post will help someone else do the same.
I called up SableCo and was a little leery at first because it sounded like a low-budget operation. However, their prices were fantastic and there was a lot of good comment on them at AR15.com so I decided to give them a try.
Donnie Price was very helpful and quick to answer email. We discussed several options I had been considering over the phone and I ordered the new 6-position Fiberlite collapsible stock (with the bottom sling swivel) from Rock River and a set of M4 double heatshield handguards. Everything went smoothly and the order was delivered promptly (although it was shipped to my billing address instead of the shipping address I had indicated).
As far as dealing with SableCo goes, I'll definitely use them again. Service was very good and prices were better than any I had seen - they were competitive with Botach and Botach's service sucks.
I really like the new 6-position stock. It stays on my shoulder much better than the standard stock, is built a little more solidly (wiggles a bit like most collapsible AR-15 stocks but much better than Bushmaster standard collapsible stock), and seems to add a bit of balance to the gun. Unless you are really sold on the aesthetics or the convenience of a collapsible stock, I think the fixed A1 or A2 stock is still the best deal out there; but this is definitely the second-place finisher. The six positions make it very easy to make minor adjustments for gear, vests, body armor, etc.
Haven't had a chance yet to check out the effectiveness of the double-heat shields but the first thing I would mention is that these are the same width as the stock handguards while being noticeably taller. If you have any sort of "assault-style" sling that loops over the front handguard, you'll want to be sure that the loop is big enough for these handguards before you buy. The handguards were discolored to a grey/beige color on parts underneath the retaining ring. In playing with the gun, it took a little bit to get used to the increased thickness but overall it was a good feel.
If anybody is interested I'll let you know how effective the heat shields work out. Hopefully they will add something since an AR-15 can get plenty hot just sitting in the 110 degree Texas sun without ever firing a shot.
