AR-15 cheek piece, how many?

Ok, I know I already posted a thread on this topic, but bear with me for just a second.

How many of you AR-shooters have one of those snap-on cheek pieces?

Are they only for use with a scope?

I have kind of a problem getting a proper cheek-weld on an AR, is one of these cheek pieces the solution?

Thanks for your input!

Caliban, I don't have snap-on cheekpiece; mine is screwed on. I wouldn't be able to get a decent scope picture without it.

I've got a screw on as well. I wish I could get a good snap on so I could remove it quickly. The screw on types are slow to remove and preclude the use of the iron sights.

Well, my problem is that if I give myself a good cheek weld to the buttstock, I am staring directly into the back of the carrying handle. If I had something on the stock that was maybe 1/3-1/4 of an inch higher than the top of the buttstock, I could get a decent cheekweld.

Now it seems like I'm hearing that these cheek pieces are for rifles with scopes!

Maybe I was just born with goofy-shaped cheeks?

maybe yer nose is in the wrong place
;)

a real repeatable AR15 weld is to put the tip of yer nose on the charging handle
