AR-10s (.308)

I'm considering a flatop AR-10 variant in .308 which I can mount a scope on and shoot long ranges (800+ yards). I'm looking for 1MOA.

- Anyone have any experience with good or bad brands ?

- How would an AR-10 compare vs a match M1A in performance and in price?

Any insights appreciated - thx,

JT

I'd say that if you're hoping for 1MOA at 800 yards, you're going to have to work at it.

I'd personally go with a large action, like a Hall G or something similar, glued and screwed into a composite stock, with a heavy match grade barrel. But that's a couple of grand... But remember that accuracy costs money. You'll need every edge you can get at that distance. There's too many variables with the semi-auto action, among them possible problems with seating depth...

Bargain basement approach would be a rifle like a Savage 10FP or 12BVSS-S, with good handloads...

I'm guessing that you've already checked out the ArmaLite website and the AR-10T. This is their top-of-the-line target model. One that I'd love to have by the way... ;) I have an AR-10A4 16" carbine, which I really like a lot.

One site you may check out is called JP Enterprises . I think they build custom target guns based on the -10T.

I have zero experience with the M1A so cannot comment on that.
