Ar-10 presicion shooting

HELLO AMIGOS

MY question is a practical question and please don't take it as if I am showing off or just playing

Ok you know when We got a good shooter RIFLE and in my case I'm talking about an
Armalite AR 10T 308 win 20"

My question is where do I say is good enough or where do I stop making this RIFLE to shoot more tighter groups, I'm getting group sizes from 1.50" to .55 this is with hand loads .
Do you think I should stay with this groupings and concentrate with some different type off action RIFLE or keep trying . I am asking because I've gotten really close to break the 1/4" mark but not consistent enough to say it.

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT IN ADVANCE.

I'm not exactly sure of the question you're asking, but it sounds like you want to know where the line is between how much you can do to make the rifle more accurate and precise vs. your own skill level. I believe the vast majority of decent quality rifles are capable of more accuracy than their users' skill, on average. That is to say, the weak link is more likely to be me than my rifle. So, if you're getting consistent sub 1" groups (or that close to 1/4") off the bench, then the rifle sounds like it's doing its job. Now is the endless process of practicing your own skill - which is really where the fun is anyway. :D

AR-10s aren't known for making one hole groups. If you are getting less than an inch at any range 100 meters or further be happy with it and keep shooting.

If you want to make one hole groups you need to get a custom rifle. I don't know of any factory rifle specifically set up for benchrest style shooting.

.55 this is with hand loads

That is very good for a AR10T. I have shot several different brands of the .308 platform and all have been moa or better rifles at 100yds with match ammo. The floated barrel with no moving parts attached make these inherently accurate rifles. They are not F class accurate, but among the best in semi auto. Asking for .25moa from a AR10T is asking a lot, I'm not sure the barrel is up to it. With a higher quality barrel, possibly.

With your groups I would start moving the target back. I found 400yds still reasonably easy shots, at 500+yds it started getting considerably more difficult. Reading the wind becomes very important and it's challenging.

I can spend the whole afternoon putting two or three mags through my N6 at 800yds. Just as enjoyable as twenty mags through any of the AR's at 100-200 yds.

Your end goal is the key. These aren't BR guns, so if I can shoot .75"- 1" at 100, it should be a good 600 - 800 yd gun.

a friend has a AR10 that shoots sub 3 inch groups at 600 on a regular basis. Kreiger barrel and benchrest quality reloads etc etc. With my match rifle I can get sub MOA but that is about it. I never had a .5 MOA group in 2 years of shooting it and have pretty much gave up on ever seeing one. If he question is "can you get precision shooting from a AR platform", I would say sure. The right barrel, the right loads, the right shooter.

I still don't know what distance his groups were shot at.

If they were shot at 25 yards (2-6 MOA) then we have a problem but if they were shot at 300 yards (less than .5 MOA) he is a hell of a shooter with a hell of a rifle.

To effectively evaluate groups you need to know distance.

YotebusterR25, welcome to TFL.

Can your R25 handle a cartridge that's almost an inch longer? 3.681" vs. 2.20"

Señores. My apologies I'm the one that started this post and my responsibility is to
Keep up with it ,I thought I set it to notified me , but ok I'm here.

Thanks for the replies

I'm with you on where to cross the line with a semi auto RIFLE I'm familiar with AR15
Platform in 5.56 and I've learned that this ugly looking rifles can get pretty accurate or
In a better respective should I say consistency in how good they group , with my reloads
I can get .50" or better groups I'm not a competitive bench shooter or nothing like that just your
Average perfectionist reloader,

Going back to the AR-10 I agree 100% that the operator will never shoot better than that the RIFLE can shoot by its self .

I considered the option changing the trigger on the AR10 and I just picked up one from a GUN show in my city today.

The reason I was asking what was the chances of this RIFLE to shoot better is because I don't have a lot of experience with this kind of RIFLE.

Now here is my loads and when I get to a real computer I will load some pictures.

My best groups were with
AT 100 YARDS
155 gr of hornady A-max
IMR 4064 @90% FILL
LAPUA BRASS 308 WIN ( I CATCH MY BRASS )
FEDERAL MATCH PRIMERS
COAL @ MAG LENGTH

Recarga,
I would see how 10 shots of the .5" group look.

If your goal is to get to .25"@100, I would say you need to buy a 6mm PPC Lapua BR rifle built from a custom action and Kreiger barrel.

Yotebuster,
What do your 500 yards groups look like off a rest and from a hunting position?
