Appeal of the DA/SA manual of arms

Seems I prefer the consistant trigger pull of my wifes glock over the DA/SA of my Baretta border marshal. Much as I want to like the Baretta, I find myself shooting the glock more often. Mostly due to the differences in trigger action.

So, what is the appeal of this manual of arms? I understand that it was developed in part for safety reasons? Longer trigger pull for the first shot MAY provide a bit of margin of error for an LEO holding a suspect at gun point or in the stress of a shooting situation.

But what about you folks that use a semiauto for target shooting or self defense. Do you actually prefer the DA/SA triger action over an SA only or even a DA only?

Witness and 1911

I prefer the DA/SA with a cocked-and-locked option, because that's how I use them (but my 1911 has no option).

The DA capability MAY help someday, but I'd feel fine with SA-only if that's what was in my hand.

I don't believe there's any good reason to carry or start in DA mode; if it can go cocked-and-locked then that's the way I'd recommend.
