quote:
I'm glad my future kids have quality reading material! Ban assault rifles, handguns, ammo blah blah but hey, "Lets publish a gay comic!" Geezus, what's this world coming to????????? I'm sorry if I offended any homosexuals on TFL. Ok, I'll be honest. I'm small minded and totally against homosexuality. I'm not sorry.[/quote]

Those comments I made were rude and uncalled for. I did some serious thinking and realized if I bash somebody for their sexual preference, then I am no better then anti-gunners. Who am I to judge somebody's sexual life? Who am I to poke my noise into somebody else's bedroom?

I realized that in order for us to fight and protect our 2nd Amend. Rights, I can not trample or judge over somebody else's rights. Again, I am sorry.

Thank you for the apology. Please remember that, regardless of your views or mine, many gays do read TFL and one nasty post will be enough to make them go away. You might not know it, but about a third of the people imaged on my RKBA site are gay or bi and it serves no purpose to offend them.

Antis already practice divided and rule, no point in helping them. I appreciate your retraction, that took guts. Takes mental discipline to live and let live, to tolerate something that is repugnant to your personally. Anti-gunners can't do that, but we are better.

Svt,
While your comments may have been seen by many as unfair in a way you do have a valid point.

Let me elaborate before you all let slip the hounds. Rightly or wrongly many peole are deeply offended by homosexuality. I won't tell you were I stand because it's no ones business. Just like your sexual orientation is none of mine. Anyway, in the same way that a gay comic is allowed in book stores so are magazines glorifying pornography (Playboy etc.) and the drug culture (high times, etc.). These are seen as totally acceptable under freedom of speech and the right to self expression and so on. Yet the same stores that sell these magazines refuse to sell gun mags, claiming that these are dangerous and immoral. Go figure.

Maybe that's kind of what you meant :)

Svt, you do have guts ... come out of your hole. ;) Folks like you are why I can't get enough of this place. Intellectual honesty.

My sister is gay. Surprised me a little when I found out years ago, but not greatly. Now I just feel like it's not a big issue, as long as they don't make it a big issue. That is, I'm not interested in spending a lot of time with someone discussing their race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. - let's just interact, debate, work together, whatever. Live and let live. And, that includes my self defense philosophy.

Actually, I have thought for a long time that the gay community is a natural group of RKBA supporters, if they can get over their 'liberal' / anti-self defense tendencies. Seems to me, if I was in a minority that was hassled to such a degree, then I would be more interested in self defense, not less so.

Gays, IMHO, should be a natural source of RKBA support.

I can see it now. A couple of bozo's hassling a gay guy at a bar, and he mentions he can't stay around for the beating they want to give him ... explains he has a bowing pin / shooting match to attend ... ;)

Regards from AZ

TFL has kinda gotten me off a high horse or two also. I'm willing to see where this coalition (in my mind) of all defenders of the Second and supporters of RKBA, regardless of "other" areas of disagreement, goes.

Good for you Svt. That wasn't easy.

There are several members of TFL who are gay as well. Sexual preferance is a personal matter and doesnt effect anyone not involved.
Its a matter better left alone.
Thanks for the apology... You have the right to your own opinions, its just that posting them on the net in a forum such as this - well, it can sting some people.
I'm glad you realized that.

SVT,

I didn't see your original remarks, but I'm impressed with your forthright and considered words here, along with those of the other posters in this thread.

It has occurred to me that the second amendment has an awful lot of baggage to carry around with it when gun owners take strong, "simply" expressed positions on OTHER issues and weave them in with their words regarding gun rights or gun use.

There's a lot we could all disagree on regarding each others' perspectives on other issues. You might be less than impressed with the fact that I live in Kalifornia , am a lawyer , have longish hair and a beard :p:, play loud music and drive too fast :D. But I'm an NRA member, I go shooting every weekend if I can, I've got a Colt Commander cocked and locked in one safe and a .380 in another under the bed. I've been approved for a CCW permit by the local sheriff.

The supporters of the second amendment should encourage all other Americans to understand and support the right to bear arms. If that means that I have to befriend and assist people that don't agree with me on everything, so be it. I think this is vital to the future of the RKBA.

Thank you for starting this thread and giving thought to these issues.

I would also like to partition the 2nd Amendment from the abortion debate.

In fact, if we all could just move the public debate to self-defense we could sway people of all persuasions. There are very few people that are philosphically or religiously opposed to same.

BLESS you, Kathryn! ;)

Either you believe in the Second Amendment or you don't.
Stick it to 'em! RKBA!

Kudos,

I think most of humanity has more in common than we think. At times it helps to remove labels and look at each other for what we are- a living breathing human being who is struggling through this life like all the rest.

The bar has been raised a notch today.

224, it's pretty interesting to look at the magazine placement in a large supermarket. The firearms magazines are at the very top; the WWF, "kung-fu", etc. magazines are at kid level (figuratively and literally).

Devils Advocate type of question re:Sexual Preference. What about a pedophiles proclivity towards children? After all...is this not their "Preference".

Guns, RKBA....
