Apex RAM, would like some user feedback

I recently picked up a lightly used M&P Pro, with 4 mags for $500.

It was made at the tail end of 2013 and has the older style sear housing block.

It does not have the newest slide stop that improves the trigger reset feel.

I like the new slide stop mostly because it keeps the trigger bar from flexing and shifting. I was thinking aout picking one up, but found the RAM to be not much more in cost, and shipping was free as well, so total cost was about the same.

Besides applying pressure to improve reset feel, does the RAM help keep the trigger bar lined up?

In my opinion it won't do as much as the trigger bar. The slot cut into the RAM is wide enough to still allow a little wiggle for the trigger bar.

I also have one of the earlier M&P 9's and put the full Apex trigger in a couple months ago and love it. But I then decided I didn't like the lack of sensory feedback on the trigger reset so just added the RAM last week and now the pistol is complete. I have never noticed any flexing of the trigger bar in mine so I don't think the RAM has any effect, the flat spot on the RAM is pretty wide in comparison to the trigger bar.

Yeah I got it apart today and polished up the sear, striker, and trigger bar.

Installed the Apex trigger, and RAM.

The trigger did as it should and feels more solid than the stock. The RAM just made the reset a bit more audible. Need to get a new slide stop lever.

The trigger pull smoothed out and dropped about 3/4 of a pound, and it now sits at 5.25lb... the trigger was better than a standard M&P to start, but it is now improved even more.

The Pro is now setup to be a good winter carry gun... it came with night sights installed already.

My standard M&P has the Apex FSS in it, and while it sits at 5lb, I thought a pistol closer to a stock configuration would be better for carry.

Even though the trigger pull is close between them, the FSS feels much lighter than it is.

I am tempted to try the competition trigger and sear spring in the FSS and see how it feels. It's a range gun only at this point.

Overall I think I got a good deal on the pistol.

The new slide stop lever (first started showing up in pistols at the tail end of 2013) has a raised hump.

That hump puts pressure on the trigger bar when the trigger has been disconnected from the action during cycling. This causes the trigger reset to be more pronounced.

Here are a couple pics.

Thanks for the pics.

Ive got 3 M&Ps 2 fullsize (1 standard, 1 CORE) and a 9c. Both the fullsize guns have Apex FSS kis in them and i really like that set up.

I just ordered a FSS and a RAM kit for the the 9c. That gun has zero positive reset. In fact it has a false reset as the striker block plunger comes off the trigger bar ramp:eek:

Took the pistol to the range today.

It shot great, trigger is very nice. The RAM does some, but not much.

The new trigger keeps the trigger bar straight and prevents the torquing/rotating it did before.

I don't have any experience with M&P triggers other than my 2014 Pro I purchased used some time ago. He gave me the RAM but had never installed it himself. I installed it immediately because the gun just DID NOT have a discernible reset and the RAM fixed that. I have played with an Apex trigger my FFL has on his personal .45 and it was unbelievable. Probably like 3 lbs. Way too light for my tastes on a carry gun, but I can't deny that it was amazing. The stock trigger on my Pro suits me just fine with the RAM and I don't foresee ever replacing it. I have never noticed any torquing or sideways movement of the trigger.

One thing for me with the Apex trigger is I've had a couple unintentional double taps. I think that was due to not being able to feel the reset, and so far the RAM seems to help with that a lot. I really need to shoot it a lot more to get used to this setup. For me if it wasn't for the Apex trigger and the RAM I would just sell it and be done with it. I love the ergo' of this gun but before installing these two items I couldn't get away from shooting 3-4" low at 7-10 yds. Now it's easy to shoot the bull out in slow aimed fire and keep a 4-5" group rapid fire at 10 yds. It's a keeper.

I agree. The Apex tigger (in my case the FSS) MADE the M&P pistol a winner for me.
Before that i was a Glock fan. The M&P has better ergos, a better (natural for me) grip angle. Just a better gun. The triggers always made me lukewarm on the pistol.

With the Apex FSS and a RAM installed... Its a WINNER.

I really like my FFS in my other M&P. Need to try a standard Apex kit one day.

But my Pro has the stock upgraded sear... and it is a vast improvement over the standard m&p trigger.

Adding the Apex poly replacement trigger, plus a quick polish on the relevant areas of the internals, and smoothing the striker block activation tab, really made for a nice smooth pull with a break just a bit over 5lb.

Adding the poly trigger would be difficult for an overzealous prosecutor to exploit, same for the RAM... as neither of those parts make the pull lighter. Plus the fact that the trigger is over the minimum pull listed on the S&W site for the Pro. (4.5-6lb)

I prefer to keep potential carry pistols close to stock.

If anyone asks for pistol suggestions, I will be recommending the Pro version over the standard from now on, more so if the person is likely to keep the pistol stock.
