Ariz. Teacher Wounded at School
By ARTHUR H. ROTSTEIN, Associated Press Writer

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- A teacher who had been receiving threatening notes for several weeks was shot and wounded this morning in her classroom at a Tucson-area middle school.

School and sheriff's officials said the injury was not considered life-threatening, but did not elaborate. Television station KVOA reported the teacher, Kathy Morris, had been shot in the shoulder.

Morris, a sixth-grade teacher at La Cima Middle School, was listed in guarded condition at University Medical Center.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Deputy Deanna Coultas said the teacher had been preparing for a staff meeting when she excused herself and returned to her classroom. Morris reported the shooting herself.

Coultas said she had been receiving threatening notes but had no details.

The Sheriff's Department was looking for a man thought to be around 19 years old with a shaved head, Coultas said. They were also investigating the possibility that the teacher knew the gunman, she said.

School counselor Julie Cota said students had a late start today so none were present when the shooting happened.

La Cima has about 700 students in grades six through eight. Classes were canceled and that faculty and staff were being transferred to the headquarters of the Amphitheater School District.

Evaluation: Ms Morris knew that her life was in danger, as evidenced by the notes. Whether she is possessed of a CHL is irrelevant, since federal law prohibits carrying for any reason on school property.

Ms Morris was forcibly prevented from defending herself, and her assailant knew it. The government explicitly approves of this victim disarmament.

Now where's VPC to whine and cry over this latest government-approved incident? Oh, that's right: since there were no kids involved (unless Ms Morris is under age 24), it doesn't count.

Tucson is pretty liberal these days.

As a matter of fact, their police chief and some council members are quite active in the 'no weapons' sign business, for parks, etc.

So, what a shock, eh? No weapons allowed in schools, and this happens? How can that be? Didn't they have a sign posted somewhere?

Glad she wasn't mortally wounded, but I'm so tired of the BS illogic these days. I suppose we need a new law that says you're also not allowed to shoot a teacher on school property ...

Well, if you are going to attack someone in Arizona, the only safe place to do it is in a school or a gov't building. VERY many people carry guns legally in Arizona and if you go into any given store in Arizona and wave a gun around, you are probably going to get return fire from a number of armed good citizens. The bad guy KNEW that he could easily target this teacher in a school and there is no way she or anyone else would be armed.

That federal law keeping guns out of schools really stopped HIM from bringing a gun there didn't it?

Thankfully no one was killed, just a minor injury.

SHE SHOT HERSELF!!! IT WAS FAKED!

No joke, the police grilled her and she confessed to shooting herself. Her reason was to "demonstrate the lack of security in the school".....she has been fired and committed to a mental facility.

They will stop at nothing

If we could find out who the judge was that signed the committment papers, perhaps we could drag the rest of the anti's in front of him for like treatment.

IT WAS FAKE?????

Why didn't I hear that part on the news? They sure were quick to jump on the "another person shot at school" bandwagon.

Guess the truth isn't that important.

It was on the local news, she is on paid admenistrative leave, she is not charged yet, they are recomending psychiatric evaluation. She could get charged with having the gun in a school gun free zone and something i forget!
The police said she had powder burns that did not fit her story!

She also confessed to making the threatining notes.
She said a hispanic 19 year old male did it, the "leaders" of their community have protested, and the school district has issued an apology!

She had a run in with a student who is on death row now, 5 years ago and threatened to quit, due to "lack of safety in the school".

My report was based on ABC Radio News around 3:00pm this afternoon. Local TV news is over and it wasn't mentioned...though the "original" incident was reported yesterday

I assume the same, you are on site...and, after thinking about it, it makes a perverse kind of sense (given that these days we have to stop and ask what is is)...

She is a victim... of past incidents, circumstances and her overwhelming love and care for an ideal society. She isn't responsible, her loving, generous and peaceful spirit was overwhelmed by the corrupt, evil and selfish society that the NRA has constructed. She'll be paid, have a nice rest and be transfered to guidence counseling, as Director, of some school district. ;)

It MUST be the guns...

This is a great plot for a 'woman as victim' made-for-television movie; Lori Loughlin or Nancy McKeon cast as The Victim.

Maybe I should just home school my kids. Oh, wait a minute, I already do!

Is it any wonder...
