That depends on where (state or county or municipality) you live.

As stated it depends on where you live. For us fortunate few we live where we can own and shoot such ammo, and guess what? Not a single police officer has been shot with any.

First let me state I am fairly certain there are armor penetraters and arming piercing. Armor penetraters are widely available on the surplus market in both 556, 308, 30-06, X39, 54R and a number of other calibers fairly cheaply. Armor piercing ammo is not nearly as available or as cheap.

I believe the ?hollywood bank robbery? involved either penetraters or piercers.
Still, a rare occurrence.

The N Hollyweird Shootout had some but the majority was just good ol' fmg ammo. At close range....well we've all seen the tape. It's all you need.

I think it's a interesting how long and how many cops
it took to stop that thing. I can say with confidence that in many place outside of The People's Republic of Kalifornia, that a S.W.A.T. officer (he'll even in a regular cop or civilian would have shot both them in the head with a rifle much sooner than the way it went down.

I could see using them with a light caliber (.223) for hunting big game, but otherwise they have very little merit outside combat.

It'd be nice to know a little 62gr bullet could make it through a deer's shoulder, but there again - you just don't shoot them there with such a small round.

For legal purposes in the United States, "Armor Piercing" ammunition is pistol caliber ammunition designed to penetrate body armor. That's not at ALL a strict legal definition, but that's the gist.

In most areas in the U.S. possession and use is not restricted but import or manufacture is. Several states also have restrictions on AP so check your state laws if this topic interests you.

For more information on the federal laws about AP ammunition you can visit this link.

The video is clearly made in a foreign country. I don't know the laws in that country, but it doesn't appear that what they're doing is illegal there so I see no reason to not let this thread continue.

The video is pretty interesting even if it's purely theoretical for those in the U.S.

Did your grampa tell you that?

Not to Hijack the thread, but they (I think the Swiss army) are testing a 6.5X25 AP round that can be adapted to a Glock just by putting in a custom barrel to shoot a 9mm 6.5X25 CBJ Sabot round.

Oh no, evil scary bullets that can kill things! Something must be done to keep these out of the bad guys' hands. I genuinely feel that most people who legally obtain AP ammo simple want to shoot up old junk cars in the
middle of nowhere. This must clearly be stopped. Call the BATFE and do it ASAP!

On a side note: Does anyone else the the BATFE has control of way too many fun things for one agency? Seriously, If you throw in cool cars
and hot girls; and they have a monopoly on all fun guy vices! Too much responsiblity/power for one agency. Agree?
