AO Sights and a Full Size Kimber for all day carry?

Does anyone have an opinion on AO sights on a full size 1911? I've seen them on compact and sub-compact pistols, which have a more "up close and personal" defense application. Would the giant golf ball front sight limit any longer range 15-25 yard shooting from an accuracy perspective. I hesitate to make the change if it significantly affects accuracy. From a defense perspective, I would like to have better sight acquisition in low light conditions, beyond the Meprolight tritium sights that come as a stock accessory.

I don't own a gun with AO sights yet, but I do believe that I am going to install them on my full size Springfield that I use for daily CCW. I got to meet Ashley Emerson at SHOT show, and after listening to the logic behind the sight system, I'm pretty much sold on them. Just my opinion.

FWIW, my primary carry gun is a full-size Kimber that wears the big dot up front and the express for the rear sight. You won't hear me complaining.

Thanks.....I was pretty much sold on them myself. This site usually gives me good feedback and a heads-up to potential issues. Thanks again.

Here is what SM&A had to say about them.

It is pretty much what I have read - very fast, but as distance grows accuracy falls off much quicker than with well designed "combat" sights like Novak, Heinie, MMC, etc.

I put a set on my Gold Match (adjustable rear). They are down right dangerous to the shooter when doing a Tap Rack drill as that rear blade coupled with the v notch makes for some sharp corners. The fixed version on my SA Ultra compact are not nearly as hurtful.

Mike11b: I have AO standard dot tritiums on my Kimber Compact and do find it less accurate at 25 yards than the original sights but much faster indexing for combat distances. I highly recommend them for a defensive pistol but not a bullseye pistol.

All the best,
