Anything else we can do?

It looks like our resistance to the anti agenda is sporadic at best, nonexistant or impotant at worse.

I am addressing all 6,000+ of us:
Is there any way to make more of a dent?
Can't we do more?

What has me fuming this minute is having all of my letters to FedGov answered with standard formletters. The last time, the fools even sent me the same letter at the same time. I don't think they're even reading our letters anymore. Probably because so few of us have written that we are judged unimportant.

Let us brainstorm. What legal and reasonable things can we do? (Other than getting the 90% of gunowners who do nothing to do something)
As it stands now, I think we are losing with flying colors. These suits will eraticate the manufacturors and they'll ban the sale of ammunition and ammunition componants.

Give your opinion.

I have the same problem. Write two or three letters two weeks apart and get the exact same response. Usually a bunch of bs how they support the second amendment but see a need to restrict firearms from juveniles and felons. It is best if you mail the letter to the apartment where they live or their home address. Of course this is not always easy. However when an official qualifies for election they have to give their home/resident address at least in the state where I live and I think that is the law. The papers they file for election/re-election is public. It would be great if we could come up with the home addresses of all senators and representatives so we could flood their home and apartments with mail. Of course that doesn't mean they will read it but I think there is certainly a better chance they will than leaving it to aids to open and answer. I'm sure we have members who know the personal addresses of many members of congress and state officials. Perhaps we should try to gather this info and make it available on line. Any thoughts.

It is seldom that a letter actually gets
read anyway.

The "way it works".

Letters come it, aids open and skim them to determine the basic bent, then the letter gets catagorized, and a form response gets fired off.

The catagories get tabulated, the most
pounds win.

"Okay, 13 pounds in favor of new gun laws
2 pounds opposed" The senator/congressman/governor whomever has
to take that into consideration.

This is why those form letters that folks are always urging you to download and fax/mail whatever really do have an effect.

Personalization doesn't really make it better. There is always a chance that an aide will read something particularly eloquent and pass it along to be reviewd by the big cheese, but not likely.

Shin Tao, Agreed, for some reason gunowners don't fit the 80/20 rule. I write, I call, I'm on a first name basis with my local Rep.'s aid and I worry she is going to label me a one agenda kinda guy. I spend so much time on our fight, I am worried about my work performance, my organization is suffering because I spend too much time on our issues, but damn who else besides us? One I think we should urge all 2nd amendment organizations to get togeather at SAF's conference in the fall. And not just give speaches, come up with a National agenda using the best each group has to offer to kick some liberal commie (God I can't believe I said that) butt! Second we have a target on October 2nd, with the latest group who wants to organize kids against us. We need a proactive strike there that is so massive it blows their minds. Will it happen? I don't think so. Why because it hasn't gotten bad enough yet. To that I repeat a phrase a wise gentleman taught me 15 years ago in the art of war (no matter what the battle) KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY TILL THE TARGET IS IN SIGHT! Since we appear to be a small group (the underdogs) we need to be selective in our targets I belive October 2 is that target because it will be an attempted repeat of MMM. If each of us here can gather 10 around us that's 60,000, 100 = 600,000. I don't know if 100 is possible on my part but I'd be willing to try if we can get the rest of our group to participate. ?????

All of this is why I am a one issue voter. All my future letters are going to emphasis the reason why this one issue is so important. The previous forum topic on why I am a one issue voter gives a lot of ammunition as to why the stand on this one issue is the key to voting.

Just because a representative or senator considers themselves to be incompetent to safely handle a firearm is no reason to think that I am incompetent. Remember we can always vote against the one in office if they try to screw us. At least the newer member want have any seniority.

Colombe, I refer to several earlier posts and one at KABA about a group that is organizing college kids and others on OCT. 2 the opening session of the supreme court. Mz.Reno and HUD Cumo (or is that kujo) were there to whip the croud into a frenze this week. "Carry on the work of the MMM, we are stonger than the organized gun lobbie........". If you aren't a member of KABA, my email address is posted, e-mail me and I'll send you a link. Shin-Tao, why are you so "uncharactaristically" quiet after the responses? I think I know you and I'm waiting for the "rant"!

Thanks, Suma. I don't belong, but get daily emails from them, I believe. www.keepandbeararms.org ?

I'd read about the October 2 date, but not that anything was in the works countering it. I don't have much left in the way of vacation days, but I'd try to be there.

Hmmm & hmmmm ...

Shin-Tao, yes, there's 6k+ of us here - in TFL - but you'll probably find that most are off in the "what kind of shotgun to use against the New World Order?" rather than in the political forums. That's just for a start & we are THE aware ones - those who actually try to be informed.

Of the 75-80M gun owners, I would suspect that 5 million tops has even joined any pro-RKBA groups at all & most of them are not aware of what's happening/provided themselves with the facts as most just want to be left alone & haven't delved into the aspects of what's happening.

Let's call it a solid million who know what we're up against & who actually do anything at all.

I & a few buds, back in 1/2000, started Tyranny Response Team. Yeah, it sounds so nasty & we do "funny things" in the street. We actually had the balls to protest against the NRA for Project Exile - you know, the push that wants to enforce ALL gun-control laws. Oops! We really aren't the problem (& neither are you & you & you) but, somehow, there's folks out there that think that there is some massive mis-use of firearms & you shouldn't be allowed to have one any more. We said "nope."

Well, we're fringe, we're wack-os & we're radicals (call that free radicals, BTW).

I tried getting folks involved in a Let Freedom Ring! 2000 - a massive letter-writing, e-mail, fax + phone call campaign in ealy April this year. Was a total flop due to non-participation - here in TFL (pretty much zip for participation), FreeRepublic (the famous Freepers/activists = flop) - & we are the activists! :( & BTW, the LFR! 2K could be done sipping on a beer & sitting on a fat a$$ ... still dint happen.

Cpmplacency. We bitch in "here," we feel better by doing that & act as if we are doing anything at all. We aren't.

"We" don't care. Pretty much simple as that, in my mind, pal o' mine.

Till we get off our collective a$$e$ & tell those who would strip us of our rights that we ain't buyin' into this - well, they'll just keep takin' 'em away.

Welcome to The Brave New World.

Anybody who will not take advantage of the info availability of what is happening, won't get off their butt to do anything about it and just sits back bitchin' to the choir ($#!+!, the choir isn't even convinced yet! = hands flying in the air, I am!) ....

Well, much more of this & I'll go off on a rant! ;) (self-condescending all the way ... )

I am very confused. Seriously. Why will we not stand up for our own rights, those of our kids & those yet unborn?

Justa buncha pu$$ie$ all in all.

E-mails, comments, any & all, welcome ....

I suggest getting involved at the state level. I went to my state rep's office and was able to actually talk to him. U.S. Reps represent many more people. They thousands of letters on all kinds of issues. It is not possible for them to read them all. Its probably not best to sent those 5 page letters to them, just keep them short and to the point. Just tell them what you think and leave it at that. most can't be pursuaded to do what they don't want to anyway. Never-the-less, they should be written to. If their mailbox gets flooded with letters, maybe they will get the idea. Its even more important to vote for the ones who believe what you do if you even have much of a choice. If not, vote for the lesser of two evils (which is what I'm usually forced to do. It is your duty to let them know what you think, even if they won't listen.

Ok, did a little research and it looks like they're planning the "offensive" at several schools all over the country. That gives us a whole lot more planning time than last time and is more wide-spread, so everyone will have a location near them. I've added an email address to my profile, if anyone is interested in getting together for it October 2, in or around Michigan, email me.

They're winning so far, because they're louder.

We have a hostile media, a ruling oligarch class that would really like to see us dissarmed, and a general population that is perfectly willing to be cattle.
Very troublesome.

I like the idea of using the politicos' actual home addresses as well as their office address.
Concentrating on reps as apposed to Senators is also a valid idea.
I'm going to shift gears accordingly.

This MillionBratMarch needs vocal opposition.
Luckily there could be a location near you to show your dissagreement. But then again, divided targets divide response size.

I've also come to the conclusion that those who do absolutely nothing to defend RKBA do not deserve same. Freedom isn't free, never was. If you want to go buy another $2,000 custom 1911 but won't shell out $30 for a pro-RKBA cause, you're an idiot and you should know it. That racegun will be worthless when you can no longer buy ammunition, take it to the range, or get replacement parts.
The antis are out there. Federal funded in many cases. We need to work three times as hard to make up the force differance.

Seeing that we will never be cast in a favorable light, and that Joe Average is slugg-minded, we shouldn't waste our time on them. So we need to focus on lawmakers and indistry leaders.

For example, the upper echellons at Wall-Mart, despite tremendous pressure, will still stock and sell you firearms. (At good prices too) Let us write them in appreciation.

Look at politicos who stand up for RKBA. Even if they are out of state. Donate to their campaigns and write them explaining why. Be a one issue citizen.

Keep the ideas coming and stay motivated.

Some random thoughts.

Take some lessons from the opposition.

Start small and local. Focus on teaching the children and those who are open minded. Tailor your arguments to match the audience, not your absolute beliefs. Do not confuse tactics with goals.

Move larger. Take a job as a journalist, and ferret out all the self defense stories in your town. Take a job as a teacher, and teach history and the constitution. Take a role in HR, and change the company’s policy manual. Take a job in government, and make some official pro-RKBA decisions. Launch a counter suit, or become that 2nd amendment test case we have all been looking for. Yes, most of these options represent large life changes for us. But, while we were all busy being productive citizens, the other side was busy identifying those key leverage positions, and occupying them.

Remember, don’t telegraph your punches. The most effective disarmament movements did not take their first steps on the front page of the newspaper. Figure out your course of action, and do it. By the time someone figures it out to complain, you should have some results under your belt to back up your position.

By all means, give $ to the pro-groups, if you can. Every time I buy a new toy, I take 5% of the price and donate to a pro group. Build that into your purchasing budget.

But to address your original point, we are by nature, a group made up of individualists. Organizing us is akin to herding cats. Once the battle is one (not the war, mind you) we are more likely to disband and go back to being productive citizens. The other side is in permanent campaign mode, and is willing to wait us out. I think if we were to adopt the same stance, we would start to change into the types authoritarian organizations which we despise.

Again, just some random thoughts on a rainy Sunday morning. YMMV.

Marty

BTW, dog3 has it exactly right on how the letter writing works. Oddly enough, the little hill rats that tally the letter stacks are extremely consciences about counting them correctly. They keep logs and copies of all letters for several years. If someone goes back and finds out a staffer was messing with the correspondence, that’s the end of that paper pushing career.

Choose your area reps, select your leaders, put them in a picnic setting with a rubber room and let them brainstorm - no idea too small, dumb, etc. No regimented agenda. Let's see what comes out.

No revolutionists, macho pushers or other attention attractors. Just some good thinking folks trying to generate a reasonable course.
