Anyone with newer 642 have problems with the internal lock?

Trying to find a new in box older one without the lock, but they are hard to find for the money I have to spend. So has anyone experienced any issues with that ugly looking lock that Smith puts in it's 642's (or other revolvers)? Thanks

I don't own a locking model, but from what I've read about it, if you only shoot light loads, and don't drop or mishandle the gun, and don't actually use the lock, then you will probably never have a problem. If that is good enough for you then go for the new gun.

but from what I've read about it, if you only shoot light loads

What fun is that? I figure with only 5 shots, +P ammo is a given... I'm not buying a snub for light target loads.

The internal lock thing bugs me. I wish Ruger made a smaller, lighter .38.

Taurus' lock seems to have a better reputation of NOT failing.
