In the 9mm flavor...

i have tried searching and there is really not a whole lot of information in the form of reviews for this round, specifically the gold dot 9mm +p 124 gr

has anyone ever tried the 9mm gold dot?

the price is pretty good for high quality hd ammo, if it is indeed high quality ammo...

any insight would be helpful...

thanks guys

all these views and no replies...i guess the ammo isnt as good as it looks...because if it was more people would be using it i suppose...

i know people like the 10mm but apparently no love for the 9mm

Maybe many of the views are like mine--interested in learning more (especially because i have a 10mm), but never seen it for sale at our gun shows. When I do, I'll try it.

The first I heard of Uderwood is yesterday on the this board. Somebody mentioned there 10mm is more powerful than Doubetap.

I might consider them for 44mag ammo, and maybe some .357s too.

Gold dots are a upper rung hollow point design used by police and others, think golden sabers only better.... More consistently reliable expansion than golden sabers..

As far as underwood it would seem to matter little what company did the loading so long as its comparable to others.

well that is as good a reason to not having any reviews as i could have thought of...

looks like ill try 100 and report back what i think about em

My view is this...

The Gold Dot slug is now the 3rd-place top slug available, in the "police calibers" (meaning 9mmPara, .40S&W and 45ACP). Top slug is probably the Federal HST, second place is Winchester's Talon/Ranger-T series, then the Gold Dots, and then probably in 4th the Barnes all-copper stuff. The Barnes is last only because being bulkier for the weight, you get less power charge available...if you could drive the Barnes slugs as fast as a Gold Dot for the same pressure they'd probably take 3rd.

In the "non-police calibers" (45LC, 44Spl/Magnum, 357Mag) the Gold Dots are very often the best slug you can get.

The Federal HST and Winchester Ranger-T in 9mm are sold in "police sales only" +P+ flavors. They're OK for big, heavy, stout guns. IF that's not what you have, then a Gold Dot 124gr in 9mm loaded +P is probably the best you can (or should) do. And it'll be damned effective.

i have zero interest in the +p+ stuff...i find that the regular pressure rounds are just fine for everything i would need defensively...

the round that i want to use for sd is the hst 147, but it is not that easy to find and is more expensive than the underwood...unfortunately underwood doesnt offer a 147 gr but a +p gold dot for 50 cents a round sounds like a good deal...

I've heard of Speer Gold Dots.

I haven't heard of Underwood Gold Dots.

Anyone can buy Gold Dot bullets and load them up to their own specifications. Maybe Underwood is a reloading company?

I've always wanted to get some Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel for my snubs but every time I look at the price I suddenly become content with my current SD ammo :) maybe that's not the best example of contentment.

I use Underwood GD's in 10mm. Excellent round. I shoot the 1300 FPS flavor in my 10mm Glocks and Smith 10xx series guns and their 1200 FPS load in my Delta Elites. Great ammo and CS too.

More than likely the Underwood Gold Dots are Speer Gold Dots in a brass case loaded by underwood not actually underwoods own lead... I could be wrong but I suspect not..
