anyone with a small collection

i've been trying to shrink my collection, and just when i thaught i had it as small as i could like i still have too many. is there anyone out there who has a small collection say 10 (including shotguns, 22's pistols, muzzel loaders--- everything) and is a perfectly happy camper? if so what guns (or types of guns) do you have? I was always told you need at least a major caliber rifle, a shotgun, a muzzel loader(if your state has that specific season) and a 22 rifle or pistol. Heck my 'minimal collection contains five 22lr's alone. Is there hope me, for any of us--- give me a sign.

I only have 6 firearms. I think I have too many at the same time wanting more. Makes no sense to me either. I am constantly rewriting my perfect "wish list", dropping and adding different guns every week depending on how I justify owning them.

Current inventory includes...

Bushy Dissipator
Spanish FR8 .308
Romanian SKS

SIG P226 9mm (German made)
SIG P229 .40 (US assembled)
Kimber 5" 1911 .45ACP

Will soon remove the SKS and add a Ruger 10/22T.

In the future, I plan on adding...

-.308 precision bolt action (Remington PSS, Winchester M70, etc.)
-lever action carbine (Marlin 1894P)
-flattop/scoped AR15 upper w/ 20" heavy barrel

-subcompact pistol (glock 26, 30, or SIG P245)
-another full size .45 (SIG P220 or SA1911A1 park')
-maybe a .22lr target revolver (S&W 617)

As far as a shotgun, I can't decide pump or auto, 590 or 870, Benelli or Remington, factory stock or ScattergunTechnologies, can I live without one or not? Back and forth, back and forth. Just doesn't stop.

I wish I spent as much time shooting as I do thinking about the "perfect" list.

I don't think I can ever be satisfied.

i was perfectly happy for a long time with just an 870, .308, Viper 22LR, Glock 21, and 7mm Mag. and my bow

10 guns isn't a collection. It's a bare minimum of basic needs. :D

It is not a concious decision to buy a certain number of guns. It is a testosterone thing to be into weapons and a human thing to collect things.

If I had bought nice guns, instead of the $20 beat up guns I have, I would have been able to afford allot fewer.

One of these days, I am going to get a one inch 5 shot group at 100 yards.

Every collection NEEDS atleast

1. a semi-auto rifle of some sort
2. .22
3. Varmint caliber bolt action rifle
4. big bore bolt action rifle
5. lever action
6. pump shotgun
7. semi-auto shotgun
8. over/under shotgun
9. muzzle loader
10. 1911 :D

Small Collection

:p Well, someone else has that problem!

I solved 80% of the numbers guessing by going to a single frame. Yup the TC Encore.

Currently, I have barrels in .223, .243, 7x57, .308, 7mm Mag, 300 WM, .45-70, 20 ga, .50 BP and I'm looking to add: .22 Hornet, 6.5x55, .280, .375 RUM or .375 H&H (haven't decided).

This cuts down on actual firearms in the safe. And has the added benefit of more calibers for much less money! Well, not really if you shoot a bunch.

Also, you can tell the wife, or significant other, that you'll never be buying another gun again. Just don't tell her how many barrels you'll need!! :D

I understand perfectly. I kind of feel the same way.

My collection currently numbers 9 (4 handguns, 5 longguns). 4 of these are chambered in .22lr.

I have a couple of other "wish list" guns I'd like to get, but it's not all that easy to justify them, either because of where I live (there's nothing here in the SouthEast that I need a levergun in .45/70 for, for example) or because I've got something else that will do the job reasonably well.

If I ever did the semiauto pistol thing, I'd get a good 9mm, but again that's not necessary or anything, and I truly prefer wheelguns overall anyway.

It just depends on your storage capabilities & how many different types of ammo you want to have to buy & keep up with, mostly. At least those are my issues.... I don't have a wife to get ticked off about my collection or anything (yet)...

-tubeshooter

[Edit: List I'm reasonably happy with:

- low power deer rifle (30-30)
- cheap milsurp blaster (SKS)
- first cheap .22 rifle for loaner to friends
- slightly nicer .22 rifle for myself
- .22 training pistol (revolver)
- housegun (revolver)
- carry gun (smaller revolver)
- mousegun
- 12ga shotgun]

my wife and I disagree on the actual count I figure 89 long guns and 10 handgun while she thinks 50 total....don't tell her !!!!

You obviously have a character flaw...

Why in the world would a rational man want to reduce his "collection"? Geez, seems to me that a really sane person would justify increasing it. After all, there may come a time when you "need" a different style or caliber and you won't have it. Besides, what's the use of having a 24 gun safe if it isn't full?

Oh, and the thing about the wife getting on you about guns....my wife turned back her vacation time so she could get me a .44-40 SA Colt and Browning BPCR .45-90. I buy her fresh flowers every 5 days (I get them at the grocery store or Wal-Mart and only spend about $5-7, and get her an 'I Love You" card every week or two, and when she wants a Longaberger collectors basket she gets it. If you really want to knock her socks off, stop at a pawn shop and pick up a diamond bracelet. Got one with 32 diamonds/32 sapphires for $110. Looked brand new (she knows I got it cheap 'cause that's the way I am) but she really loved it.

And I thought I had Mental Problems;) . I have gone threw so many guns in the last 3 yrs. I only regret selling one of them. I constantly fight these little voices in my head that say "BUY THIS" and "SELL THIS". I went threw it with Bass Guitars and Finally ended up with the PERFECT GUITAR. I recently got an FAL and I want to ditch the SKS now. I am also thinking about ditching the Beretta 92FS and sticking with my Colt 1991A1. Most of the guns I have owned I liked (Except for a Ruger Mark II) and I only sold them because I didn't shoot them enough.

I could be happy with the Ruger Single Six, Model 70 in 30/06, FAL, Mini 14 and Colt 1991A1. But in all honesty I'm not happy and I now I want a 50BMG:rolleyes:

Hmmm... I'll have to go look in the safe. Running out of room.. need a bigger safe.

Really I like guns I like collecting guns I like shooting guns I like hunting too much is a concept I don't understand.

Collection?

I wish for more and new/different guns all the time.....guns I'd like to Really do things to....cut and crown the barrel....lap the bolt face...glass bed the actions....forge the bolt handles....re-blue the barreled action....re-shape and re-finish the stocks....tune the triggers....ad infintim.........
But my guns for now get me by, they are:
a) A Model 340 Savage in .30-30
b) A Model 70 Winchester in .30-'06
c) A Model 1500 Howa in .223
d) A Model 10/22T Ruger
Meager....but they suit me....besides, I think there's something to be said for having few enough rifles that you can be Extremely Well Aquainted with them, to the point of being an extension of your body...........this is harder to attain with 100 guns to choose from, each time you head out the back door for a walk!!!

10 guns in your collection?! I have over a dozen firearms in my "collection" and I still don't have numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 or 10 from ArmySon's list. I used to own a few 1911's, but I sold them after I discovered that SIG Sauer P220 worked out of the box and didn't need a gunsmith on call to keep it that way.
