anyone used the Zeiss Z-Point Reflex Sight

on your Turkey, duck or deer slug gun? This is one awesome sight especially for us older guys with weak eyes :-) It snaps on a Weaver base in a second, requires no rings or screws. I have one on my TC Contender in 45/70 GOV. It can handle the brutal recoil of this handgun and heavy hitters like the 458 Winchester mag. It's water-proof and has a patented hybrid solar power system with battery backup. I think Zeiss nailed this one :-)

No, but it sounds like a winner, if you can afford it. I was going to put a trijicon reflex on my slug gun, but with the way that silly mount is put on, it's sky-high when you put it on your gun. So went with a simple dot sight as a temporary measure instead. The Zeiss or the Meprolight look like better alternatives - I'd run with the Meprolight MP21 first though, if I could afford it - no batteries, period, and larger tube/field of view. The Trijicon tri-power should be considered as well. I don't see anything out there right now that's better for short-range guns than the MP21 though:

Ya don't need no battery backup when the fiber optic system is completely fail-proof! And again, the field of view is larger than on the Trijicon or Zeiss, IINM (30mm vs. smaller).

The ultimate for me for super-fast acquisition, short-range guns would be something like the MP21, relying solely on fiber optic light, BUT with a reticle like an Eotech or Bushnell holosight (small center dot with large outlying halo). Then get it LOW mounted like an Eotech or panoramic dot sight. Essentially, a battery-free fiber-optic Eotech - that's the ultimate! Who's gonna make it?

Screw tritium. Screw batteries. OK, I like the solar panel thing if it's reliable, but if it is, why does it need a battery backup?

They are nice sights but

they sit higher than the Z-Point and shooting both eyes open negates the need for larger lenses IMHO. I put the Z-Point in a freezer and left there for 2 days, took it out, wiped the frost off the lenses and it was operating normally. Left it in a bucket of water for a day and no problems, shot it on a 45/70 TC contender (100's of rounds) that most folks wouldn't want to shoot (severe recoil) It's tough as nails.

I run the MP-21 on my AKs, Aimpoint M3 on ARs, Docter on Handguns and the EOtech 552 on my shotguns that have a weaver rail. The EO Tech sits lower than any other sight, Mine ALMOST co witnesses with the factory rem. 1100 rifle sights. It has a bigger field of view than the others , which on a shotgun is a BIG help.;)
