Has anybody owned or used trijicon orange nite sights on their semi-auto pistols like Glocks, HK, XD, etc???
Are they better than the regular green nite sights?
They would be Trijicon green front nite sight, and dual rear orange sights.
Trijicon says $99 for the set plus installation.
What's your opinion?

I just got the green/green, too - from Opticsplanet. Personally, my eyes pick up the green easily without being too bright. I'm seriously thinking of installing them myself. I'll post when I get them in and let y'all know.

BTW, for you who are thinking of buying a set of these, I highly recommend Opticsplanet.com - $85.15/free shipping. Orange, green, and yellow and combos. They're fast, too. I ordered on Jan 2 and got them today!!!

Green are the brightest, most visible, and longest lived.

I switched to Meprolights over the Trijicons. The Trijicons I replaced were only 8-10 years old and already about half as dim as the one that replaced them. The vials were also smaller, and did not have a white ring around them. Its been awhile since I had them, and I would hope they have at least remedied that.

Do a search around the web, they can be had for around $70 +/-.

I never had good luck with OpticsPlanet. Everything I've tried to order from them has been out of stock, and they dont tell you that until youve checked out, and they back order it.

Top Gun Supply is one of the better places to deal with.

That's right, tritium has a half life of about 10 years, so at that time, they'll be half as bright. No company using tritium can honestly claim more. The ones I just got have a nice size tritium dot and a nice white ring around it. Very good visibility.

Sorry you're had bad experiences with Opticsplanet. I've only bought from them once. I'm going to check out Top
Gun Supply.

Seems like OpticsPlanet sells everything. They come up in just about any search for anything your looking to buy.

Sounds like a little competition is a good thing, and Trijicon picked up on it. Glad they're working out for you. :)

I prefer the green front/yellow rear combo.

Also, the yellow stays brighter longer than the orange, from what I've been told.

the contrasting colors might be an advantage. The other option is the dot the i types with just one dot on the front sight and one light on the rear to line up. I wonder how the other colors are shorter lived, as they all use the same tritium gas, it is just the chemical coating that glows from the rays bombardment, is how I understand it. Maybe I will some day scrape the radium off an old clock that still glows, and mix it into some sort of paint mixture to apply to sights. Safe as long as you don't lick the brush right?

Well, I installed the sights last night and tested them today. The green dot is a little smaller than I anticipated, but still easy to see in dim light. The white circle around the tritium sight is great in daylight. The three-even-dot sights are easy to line up and place on target.

They were easy to install. I read up on the procedure from several websites to get a consensus of opinion on just what do to.

I placed the slide in a vice padded with an old leather belt as one site suggested. The old sights were fairly easy to tap out once I understood a "tap" was more like a "whack". I used a flat tip drift punch. The trijicons were nicely tapered and slid in about 1/3 of the way. All the websites said if they did this, it would be a cinch, and it was. I simply tapped them in. I centered them using a caliper and it turns out I was pretty close. They're shooting about 2" right of center at 7 yards.

I'm gonna like these!

Oh, these replace the trapezoid sights on my carry Steyr S40.
