Anyone use the front & rear sight protectors for the M1A?

I just placed an order with Springfield Armory for front & rear sight covers. Do any of you use these on your M1A? I was always taught not to store a rifle with the bore pluged, but SA says the front sight/muzzle cap actually protects the bore. Any thoughts on this practice? Thanks!

You can shoot through it.

That front sight piece of plastic cover can be shot through if need be, but you probably won't hit anything because the front sight is covered too. I used to use both until I had to get a PRK legal "muzzle break" and the flash hider cover does not fit. I still use the rear cover myself. I don't think it is going to hurt anything unless you keep the gun next to your bed at night for home defense.

All of my m1a's have both covers on them even in the safe. The point is to protect your sights and keep junk out of the barrel. For the small cost I certainly would pay for the insurance.

Good point about not plugging the bore, not good to keep moisture inside the barrel do nasty things with the rifling.

For those who use them, how "tight" is the fit over the muzzle, is is watertight?
