Anyone tried EGW mount on Remington 788?

I have a .308 788 with Kwik-Site see-thru mounts and want to go a different route. Would like opinions on the Evolution Gun Works picatinny rail scope base or should i stay with the Redfield/Weaver mount. What are the rest of you 788 owners using?

I can not answer for your 788
But, I did just install a EGW on my Marlin 1894...

Great product! I got the Silver anodized, I'll be getting more stuff from them!

Lateck,

I've got an EGW rail on my .243 Stevens 200, and it is a very good product. I have a M788 as well, and I think you'll see a great improvement just getting rid of the see-thru mounts. My 788 uses just regular old Weaver bases and they work just fine.

Question, what other rifel have for mounts?

Best keep the same style for swapping scope, wouldn't you think?

Only one of my rifle has a non-weaver mount, the the 77/22, but I'm working on that.

[Namely, cu the ruger rings down and TIG some flat stock and screw on a weaver 336 mount to it and enjoy common rings.]

I have an EGW 20 MOA base on my Remington 700. Great product, heck of a lot cheaper than the Badger Ordanance version. Just as good IMO.

Be forewarned, you will need to loctite it most likely.

I just put an EGW rail on my Rem 788. It did NOT fit correctly. The 788 has a slight barrel bulge/band just forward of the forward tappings and the the base ended up resting on the band/bulge and not sitting flush. It took me about 5 minutes with my grinder to remove a bit of excess metal on the bottom of the rail to make it work. In other words, I had to do a little fitting.

I already had the weaver rail pair and did not like them because they determined the position of my scope rings and limited my options. That is why I went with the EGW rail.

FYI, I got mine through Optics Planet.

Thanks for the replies. Double Naught Spy, after the grinding to fit was everything ok? I was wondering if the spent brass cleared the mount or if you had to open it up.

Yes I have a EGW (Heavy Duty) Picatinny Rail on a Tikka T3 and IMO they are very well made. Probably one of the better (machined) Picatinny Rails on the market.

The rail fits fine now. The brass his the mount for my scope, but to be honest with you, the bass didn't eject 100% before I changed things over either. When I take the scope off, it works as well as it did without the new rail as it does with the rail and scope not on it.
