Anyone tried .40 conversion on Kel-tec P11?

I've been trying to decide between a Kel-tec P11 (possibly adding a .40 conversion later), or a P40. I like the fact that the P11 is slightly smaller and lighter, should kick less, and practice ammo is cheap. But I do think that the .40 has a small edge for self defense. If a .357Sig version (or conversion) is ever made available, I'd be interested. I want this primarily to carry in a fanny pack or pocket while hiking or fishing for defense against everything from snakes to bears (I know, I know, this isn't enough gun for bears, but lets not re-hash that again). I'd be very interested in anyone's experiences with the .40 conversion or with the P40 itself.

I don't personally have any experiance with the conversion, however I was considering one as well. They are avalible from natchez shooting supply ( www.natchezss.com ) for about a hundred bucks, which is a good price. From what I've heard on the Kel-tec owners group ( www.ktog.org ) it is a good idea to get a .40 mag to use instead of your standard nine. Evidently they jam less. BTW, a .357 sig conversion barrel is already avalible. From what I've heard it kicks like a SOB. Sign up for the e-mail list from ktog, then go to egroups where it is hosted and search al the back posts for lots of detailed info regarding the conversion.

The P11 is somewhat frisky already, the .40 is considerably more so. It's controllable, but it's sure not that much fun to shoot in .40.

I`ve kicked the idea of getting the conversion kit around too. I decided that since my P-11 has proven ultra reliable it would be foolish to mess with it to get a tiny bit more power. 9mm and .40 are pretty closely matched out of a short barrel. I figure the best 9mm load is probably equal to the second or third best .40 load and it`s just not worth splitting hairs over. So I just carry hot +Ps (of which I also get an extra round vs.the P-40)in my P-11 and all is well with the world. :) Marcus
