Anyone shot the Colt Lightweight Sporter

I have always wanted one,but like other things,it may not be as I imagined. What are your thoughts on this AR15 ? Recoil ? Accuracy?
thanks

Recoil? In a .223? :) I haven't shot the Colt, but I have a Carbon 15 rifle that weighs less than 4 pounds, and it doesn't have significant recoil. I will say, if you take off the clip-on muzzle brake, the difference is noticable, but hardly "too much to handle".

Recoil? Don't worry about it. Get one, if you have a problem with the recoil, get a .22 conversion kit for it and use that until you get use to the mighty (not) recoil of the .223. :D Then, you will have in effect 2 ARs... a .22LR and a .223 for the price of one. Can't go wrong there.

I've got one, and I'm satisfied with it. It's the only AR I own.

It's light and handy, and easily accurate enough to serve almost any role for me. Recoild is mild, follow ups are quick. And it's easy to stash in the trunk! Unloaded, of course;)

I've been very competetive in high power matches using my lightweight, against those with full length, enhanced ARs. Despite the shorter sight radius, reduced velocity, etc., this little carbine has more than held up.

I like mine and advise you to try one on for size!

i own a colt sporter lightweight pre-ban. there's not much to say. i mean, it's accurate and it's a nice weapon to wield even in close quarters (only if you have to). it's a 16" barrel so if you've fired any other 16" ar variant it's probably the same in recoil.

AS the very famous and late Warren Page used to say "Accuracy means different things to different people.

My definition of good accuracy in An AR15 is 1/2" groups or less at 100 yards. You will only achieve this with a heavy barreled weapon and you will only achieve consistantly small groups with a first class trigger system. This is the other 50% of your potential accuracy.

I recommend the Jewel Trigger for your AR if you are serious about winning in competition. There is none better or lighter in pull. They are not cheap, the good things in life seldom are. Expect to pay almos $200.00 if you install it yourself. W.R.

I have a pre-ban...

16" Sporter with pencil-barrel. It's a nice rifle; accurate enough (i.e. more accurate than me even with a low power scope on it). Reliable enough so long as you use quality magazines. Don't buy crap magazines, ITS NOT WORTH IT!

I have a telescoping stock on mine and use 30rnd mags, recoil is present and a little more noticeable than on the 20" versions with the full stock and the heavy barrel, but its certainly not heavy recoil. I was able to trigger off 30 rounds in about 12-15 seconds while keeping the vast majority in a man-sized region at 100yrds.

The advantage is handyness and ease of carry. You probably wouldnt win championships with it, but for a SHTF urban weapon light enough to haul around with you it certainly seems nice to me!
